Is this just someone's photography project, or was this an actual joke?

We are very aware of that. (It's a space forum, you know.) The thread questions the history of the photograph. Whether it was a joke, or staged for a photography project.
That picture looks familiar, I know I've seen it somewhere...
I assume that someone got the photo of Laika from somewhere, then photoshopped/cut it out and made a 'lost dog' photo like you get stuck up on telegraph poles as a bit of a joke.
