Any of you folks finding yourself doing everything EXCEPT playing orbiter? In this case - everything - refers to things like add-on development, reading the forums, studying spaceflight, configuring orbiter, setting up orbiter, downloading add-ons and cruising through orbithangar.com, writing scenarios, reading the documentation, evangelizing orbiter, organizing your orbiter 'stuff'.. etc.etc..

I often do exactly that. Unless there's a new, cool addon (or just a simple one), I spend more time in OF and tweaking some configs, etc.

I'm reading up on my Interplanetary Spaceflight, and waiting on a response on how to attach station building blocks to the shuttle, and browsing the forums.

A lot of the time I don't play orbiter. Work and home stuff eats up too much time these days so I'm trying to sort out a few hours orbiter time for this weekend.

Sometimes I play Race Into Space, which has the "strategy and management" aspect of spaceflight. It's very complementary with Orbiter. :P

The ultimate dream would be a "fusion" of the two. A Race Into Space where you could take the commands on the critical aspects of the missions. An Orbiter were you could manage your space agency, buy rockets, launchpads/launchsites, make R&D, recruit astronauts, pay the workpower, and survive the competition with other agencies to win commercial contracts...

That would be the most awesome thing since I found out I can play against myself in Race Into Space a few weeks ago, thus winning without the computer cheating.
BTW, a thread was started where development for a new RIS began, but it hasn't been updated in months.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm NOT bored with Orbiter though, I just current enjoy tinkering with other elements (development, tweaking multistage guidance files, etc).
And I spend more and more time reading posts here on the 'forum too.

I go through various cycles of... let's say interest addictions. I'll pick something up, have a ton of fun, and immerse myself in it. Then after a few weeks or months, I move on to something else, get immersed in that, etc.

So yes, it is possible to just not be interested in playing Orbiter. I'm always in the IRC room, and I'll chat on occasion. Mostly I just browse the forums. But unless the mood has struck me to play Orbiter, the thought of climbing into the cockpit just does not sound appealing. But of course, like Quick_Nick said, you'll be back. I know I will.

It's true that this forum is showing an amazing level of activity this spring. New people, new addons, new graphic client, new ideas, and always the same level of scientificity and precision !

I think that everything is currently reunished to see very nice addons or updates in the following months

At first I dove into everything.
Then I realized I didn't know jack about anything.
Then I decided to start with Earth and work my way out.
So far, I haven't left LEO due to not mastering all aspects of realistic space flight before I move on to interplanetary travel (and I'm also waiting for the XR2 Mk2 to break my interplanetary "cherry" in).

Have to crawl before you can walk.

If you're that bored, I challenge you to take a project and master it.
Manual reentry on the space shuttle for example. Or learning how to use the SRMS with an OBSS and configure arm sequencing for inspecting the heat shield.
You can start to build your own station using the station building blocks addon.
If you decide to leave LEO try the UCGO addon and take the Arrow freighter to another moon and setup a base.
Setup another base with the packages that come with Dan Steph's DG.
Launch a mars mission. Download another galaxy addon.

50 billion things to do with Orbiter. I haven't even scratched the surface because I like to build on knowledge before I advance.
But if you came to this thread looking for excuses from other people why you should keep playing Orbiter, then just uninstall it now.
If you need motivation from others to play it, then don't play it and find something else that does interest you.

I haven't been flying it very much ever since my joystick broke, and now Orbiter itself isn't functioning properly for me. I did get a really nice Logitech G940 flight system for Christmas, but I can't use it in Orbiter because it is force feedback (gets in the way when using RCS in space, usually puts me in a tumble because the stick will lean to one side). Since then most of my sim time has been with FSX. I do plan to get back on it once I buy a new joystick.

well, because of the time constraints that I'm having as Med Student, I actually only plays orbiter when I'm having the days off, and only reading OF in betweens :D

When you're geting bored of Orbiter, it's time for add-on development i guess:lol:

I can't go into much detail yet, but let's just say I'm working on something that, if all goes according to plan, will be very much along those lines ;)

Hopefully next month there will be an official announcement

Cheers
