News Lasers could replace spark plugs in car engines

Well you have to remember that this stuff is relatively fringe... If a "company" called "The Church of Kynlíf" came to the UN with a way to turn evil people into sexy, good, and prosperous people by using a machine which claims that an alien came to earth and had relations with a dinosaur and as a resault adam and eve was born but they were dogs and as punishment they were turned into humans... And that this machine works by gasifying endorphines... THen of course no one will give a :censored: no matter how true it is... SO is the same with these companies and people...

Uh... what? :uhh:

I'm not sure what context that post is meant to be taken in or where it has relevance in regard to other topics.

Basicly these people arent to be taking seriously nor are they taken seriously by an governemnts...

Oh really? Not taken seriously by governments? Then what's this about the US Navy looking to have a 50/50 bio/petro fuel blend approved for use in ships and aircraft by 2012?

Looking into not using... Its like looking into buying a $500000 car you may consider it but you find out you are completey broke and just buy another one...

Pluss the US look in all types of stuff like scramjet bombers and Fusion bombs and stuff... Dosnt meen the world does the same... Americans are rich we have money to waste while other governments are struggling against rebels and hunger... GO figure...

Pretty cool, especially since it is supposed to increase efficiency of fuel combustion.

Now when starting the engine with laser plugs you should yell loudly Commence primary ignition!

I play this when I start my car up..

It's an .mp3 I feed through the amps; sourced by a tiny mp3 player I built up. There is room for 9 other sound effects, such as seatbelt alerts from planes, and the outer-marker beacon for when I pull into the driveway. Stuff like that.

Really? I think they are being taken seriously by many people, including governments. Maybe not seriously enough yet, but that is only because demand is not high enough.

No offence, but I think you are just disregarding the existence of solutions, so that your $81/gallon apocalypse comes true...

Already Sasol uses the Fischer-Tropsch process on an industrial scale in one of its facilities... I would not call Sasol a bunch of morons or quacks.

Petroleum consumption could also be significantly reduced by consrvation. For example do people really need 2,5 ton SUVs to travel within city? Huge amount of gasoline could be saved simply by making cities more bicycle and scooter friendly. Going 10 - 20 km by bicycle in city often is quicker than driving in jammed traffic.

But more tiring, dangerous in bad weather, and impractical for those who do not have enough physical capacity to do so.

That said, I don't really support the use of cars within city centers, but for more spread out areas, they can't really be replaced by walking, cycling or public transport- though capable enough public transport systems would certainly be helpful.

Or not use cars at all - look at all the jams, there are on average 1 man per car, with occasional family dropping kids to the school next door. Irrational use of resources.

Why not use buses and other kinds of transport. You can sleep on the way, among the other benefits.

Going 10 - 20 km by bicycle in city often is quicker than driving in jammed traffic.
And healthier. But you'll need regular practice - a break of a few years, and the seat hurts your butt already.

Unfortunately, many people would consider bicycle riding below their level of perceived importance.

I believe humanity will figure out a way to survive but i just think that the world willl suffer from continuous dependancy on oil...

PLuss you got to remember that the government does all types of research...
If a couple of our top scientist came in drunk and high and wrote a paper on their experiences of people jumping 90ft high and running at 76mph and running into armor penetrating rounds without a scratch and then blamed it on 5 shots of jack and magic...
Then the army will spend a million dollars on the connection between jack daniels and magic and super-soldiers...
THis actually happened once...

When? documentation and references please.

Im not sure when but it was big enough that they told us in every english, librarian and, research class i took...
Someone working in the Health department read that their is a chemical in plastic cups and that the chemical is found in all cancers... The chemical if ingested would kill you in high amounts and would cause kidney failure... The chemical is found in high concentration in the blood... The health department issued several warnings about plastic cups... The chemical was dihydrogenmonoxide...
::lol::

my physics teacher doesn't want to believe me, that a balls trajectory is a veeery long elipse...

My perception of bicycling would be a bit better if I didn't try to turn one into a flying machine at age 7...

Yeah, but this is the thing: we can't be dependant on oil forever, it is a finite resource.

This thread is now off-topic and should be retitled.

Yeah, but this is the thing: we can't be dependant on oil forever, it is a finite resource.

We should begin the move away from oil while we have the chance (and comforts of using it). Before civilization needs to be re-built upon a different source.

Made a new thread that may possibly allow us to continue without off topicing...

I like the idea. The old spark plug is long past its prime and if we are going to continue to refine engines for better efficiency and power it is time to look at replacing some of the age old components.

Of course this is likely going to be one of those inventions that takes a decade before it comes down from Formula 1 or NASCAR.
