Hello,
I am posting here after a loong break. :tiphat:

I recently came across this hard sc-fi series now being produced for broadcast over internet.

http://l5-series.com/

They just outed a teaser trailer :

Did anyone else notice that the HUD at 00:32 looks a lot like those from Orbiter ?

It doesn't look like an Orbiter MFD, it is IMFD, IMHO.

It's hard sci-fi, and there's going to be a lot of details in the backgrounds and stuff that hardcore people can find. Real orbital elements, and such things. ;)

Ahhh, the Island colony... I think there's allready a thread about this somewhere here, but thanks for getting it to my attention again. From the trailer, they're making a huge effort for a web series. If they can pull it off, it's going to be very nice...

Shouldn't the texture be horizontally mirrored if we are seeing it from behind?

EDIT: Ok, silly me. You mirrored your screenshot so we could see it xD

Yeah, I started a thread about this a while back here. Looks like they've made a lot of progress since then! If they pull this off, it'll be quite nice.

I think it's nice they use orbiter, we're almost guaranteed a realistic show now!

I don't mind seeing Orbiter being featured and hopefully gain us some exposure.

As far as hard science goes - IMHO all sci fi should be hard science. Save the fantasy stuff for anime (heck even anime borrows a lot from real world inspiration/current concepts). Gundams not included :D

Well, isn't that a little bit restrictive? There has to be some fantasy out there...

Although, IMO the best sci-fi stories are not only the ones with the greatest plots, but the ones which don't have to throw reality entirely out the metaphorical window in order to achieve the right setting. :tiphat:

Of course, I also altered the palette to make the graphics more readable. I could also have applied a forensic filter to sharpen it up but by the time I was distracted by the thought of Catherine Willows watching over me.

I hope they succeed doing this. I'm tired about bad sci-fi films (if it can called sci-fi) where there are always aliens killing people or zombie aliens or other stupid thinks like this.

I have a a feeling that it'll be a breath of fresh air even from being hard sci-fi and a small-scale production, if nothing else.

The synopsis says that the crew will undergo a "spiritual and trans-humanistic sojourn", which I assume would be of the sort which I'm finding to be more and more cliche for hard SF in the recent era. Meh, I suppose atomic holocaust and alien invasion were the cliche in the 50s and 60s...

But it's still way better than "OMG aliumz invashun wtf sauser over citi gona diploy teh lazurz beamz lulz!1!!!!!11111!!!111

Oh God! I hope not!

I go to school to learn science. I watch sci-fi to be entertained.

So you don't find science entertaining? :uhh:

I mean, sure, there's a place for science-y fantasy and "soft sci-fi", but there's nothing wrong with good hard science fiction... other than it's too common absence...
