New Release UCGO Packable Rover (bz_MiniRover)

Thats weird... So Dan, you say I should raise the mesh up 2cm and re-export?

JB

---------- Post added at 04:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ----------

So I reimported the mesh raised 2cm higher than the last one. But now it looks like it's riding on air. So before I release the raised up version, I would like to hear from Dan if thats the fix. I do not get the transparent textures ever. And I have driven the rover into pollygons that are much higher than the landing pads.

Ias the rover only transparent when it's on that landing pad? Is it transparent just on the earth?

JB

OK, I will test it at different bases and planets and get back to you.
By The Way, I like this idea of an unpackable rover. It is great:thumbup:

Here are some screenshote, treid it at Keenedy Space Centre and Armsron's Crater MoonBase.
Hope this helps.
Sorry I don't know howto fix the problem, but Dan and the others will help you with that. Thay are all fantastic people!
All the best
Kevin

Thats really weird. Who else is getting these transparent textures?

Are most people not getting this issue?

I honestly don't know what it is....

But try this version. The entire mesh has been raised 2cm from ver 1.1

See attached.

Did the latest version help with the transparent textures?

Hi Buzz
Sorry, had to go out and get some sleep after the last message. I will check it out and the new download on OH.

---------- Post added at 10:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 AM ----------

Hi JB,
I don't know if other users have tried it or not yet.
Unfortunately I still get the same problem. maybe Dan can tell me if it is a problem with my computer... me doing something wrong maybe.. which I do too often:embarrassed:
One thing I notice is that if I move the camera around parts of it get more visible and less visible. It is still great fun to drive around though!

The version with the 2cm lift is attached to this thread and it's ver 1.1.1

The version thats on OH is version 1.1 without the lift.

JB

OK, I downloaded the 2cm lift version.
The body still changes visibility and the wheels now rise and fall from the ground as I ride along.
I know Nembutalteam has just finished making 2 rovers and he had mesh problems. Maybe he can help a bit.
Don't give up, this is still a fantastic idea and a great rover!
Love the idea of an unpackable rover with an unpackable rover cargo:thumbup::)

The wheels rising and falling are only because the rotation point is off, now that the rover was lifted, without me actually changing the rotation points to match. I just wanted to see if the lift helped.

Tell me this...

1. What video card are you using
2. It's only the body thats transparent, correct? You can see the wheels and the UMMU's?
3. What about from the VC? You still have transparent textures?

I just tried uploading a new version just for you so we can see if I can fix it. But for some reason I can't upload any files here now. Must be the new server, I will try later.

Yep, The uploading goesn't work yet on this site. I tried to upload a screenshot but it didn't work.
Don't worry you can do it later. I got a full evening anyway and will only be back on my pc tomorrow evening again:)
Don't know if you want to try upload to Dan's site, if you do just say so and I can check there.

The VC is the Virtual Cockpit.

Try going into orbiter and get in the rover. Hit F1 until your in the virtual cockpit and when you pan your view around you can see the inside of the rover.

Tell me if the rover is invisible still. Are the wheels and the UMMU's visible?

Are there certain times when the rover is invisible or is it all the time?

JB

OK, thamks. When I use the VC and pan around it is all perfectly visible, I can see the UMMU's and the whole rover inside.

If I look from the outside with F1 again then I can see the UMMU's and the wheels sometimes and sometimes I see parts of the rover. When I zoom in and out i get better visibility.

I am trying to upload a screenshot but it doesn't want to upload, sorry.

I was hoping you would get the same results when in the VC. This makes things much more confusing...

Is there anyone that has any ideas why this is happening?

How many people are having this issue?

Dan... Can you jump in here?

JB

This is great! The DGIV needs a rover capability and this is perfect  No problems here.

I got a crash to desktop when trying to unpack a rover. It was fine as a box, but when I hit 'U' to unpack it, I got the "Unpacking Cargo" voice message and then Orbiter crashed. If I can find any more info on what happened, I'll post it.

Ok, I tried again. Loaded the DGIV scenario "Landed KCS departure to ISS". I used the scenario editor to add one of the rovers to the cargo hold. Opened the cargo bay and released it, then EVA-ed one of the passengers. I moved the DGIV forward a bit, to get it out of the way, then walked the UMMU over to the cargo and hit 'U'.

The "Unpacking Cargo" voice message played, then the screen went black and the Window's message box popped up saying that Orbiter.exe had stopped working.

I'm on Vista 32-bit and my video card is a GeForce 8400 GS. Other details available if you need them.

any thing in the "orbiter.log" ?

any thing in the "orbiter.log" ?

Actually, that was my first thought. To check the log file. But I couldn't find the thing... Isn't that supposed to be in the base orbiter folder?

In any case, I looked in some others and didn't find it. I get the feeling that maybe that file is only created when there's a problem, and this problem hit it before it could log the error, perhaps. But, I really have no idea...

If your Orbiter folder is located in Program Files look into:
<home drive>:\Users\<your account>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\<Orbiter folder>\Orbiter.log

Ah-ha! That's where it is! Thank you!

Ok, so I re-did my experiment, as outlined above, adding the payload to the DGIV, dropping it and unpacking it. Got the same crash. Here's the contents of the orbiter.log file:

Looks like the usual "start-up stuff", but no apparent error message. Still, maybe there's info of use there?
