I will be leaving you all temporarily on either August 19, 2010 or January 3, 2011. I may actually leave a few days earlier though, since I'll have to get settled in at where I'm going, also, please note that the dates are subject to change, for I don't think they start school on the same day every year (plus the school I'm going to temporarily go to probably won't at the start the same time my normal school starts. Now you may be wondering where I am going and why. Well, I am going to Cologne, Germany, because it is something I really want to do, and because of a certain individual, ;).

I do however regret to inform you that I may not be able to visit any of the forums I actively go to while I am away, let alone all 485 of them. So I am posting this message on all the forums I go to (or atleast the ones that I can right now, since I doubt have time at the moment to post it on all 400+ forums). I do hear that several people in Germany do use the Internet however, and unfortunately the house family I was hoping to stay with had too little room for a guest, so I have to stay with someone else there, how unfortunate.

I will be gone for what will be gone for a full semester, which is about half of a year. If I get into the program for the first semester (August 19, 2010), I believe I will be able to return to my loving and caring real family in the United States of America before Christmas. I thank you all for your understanding and/or support. I will try and get on some of the sites I have bookmarked, but I will probably only get on the SS Free and Facebook on a daily basis still, but even then, no promises. Wish me luck and a safe trip everyone. If you feel the need to make a topic (or topics) about saying "goodbye and have a safe flight" (or something like that) to me before I leave, feel free to do so.

In my absence, the lovely Ms. tabby1gamer, administrative representative of the United Gamers Alliance will become my acting replacement as chairman of the SS Free, the SS Free Network, and all SS Free Network members, which include, but are not limited to: the United Gamers Alliance, SS Free Germany, the Universal Gaming League, and the Zombieland Forums. I have the utmost confidence in Ms. tabby1gamer's ability to run the SS Free and it's respective Network. If you have any questions, please use the SS Free's Customer Service forum, thank you for your time.

You do realize Germany is a first world country, right, and they have internet access there just like the US? (If not better)

Most people who go overseas for a semester try to learn at least something about the country they are going to.

Yeah. Ain't that easy to escape from teh interweb. Get a netbook, hook up to a GPS receiver and run NetStumbler and you'll find a dumptruckload of free WiFi hotspots around (except probably in Italy where it's illegal). In Germany they'll probably throw so much interweb at you that they'll clog that series of tubes.

I do hear that several people in Germany do use the Internet however...

Only several.

Maybe you should ask the CIA first, about what they know about Germany as short and accurate summary...

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/gm.html

Internet country code: .de
Internet hosts: 23.796 million (2009) country comparison to the world: 3
Internet users: 61.973 million (2008) country comparison to the world: 6

https://www.cia.gov/library/publica...ermany&countryCode=gm&regionCode=eu&rank=6#gm

Oh, and we do have fridges here, too.

Exactly. The natives are friendly, too, and won't eat you. The authorities may not be as nice, but that is true of all those people who think of themselves as "authorities".

That is a long time away. Maybe you should hold off on goodbyes until we actually know who the hell you are. Have fun in Germany, and yes- there is internet there. A lot of it, actually.

There you can surf "für umme" how we say in south germany. :)

I will make sure there is a truck full of premium internet waiting for you.
Of course we will have to import it from the states... *sigh*

I am doing an exchange year in Germany myself. Internet access is fairly easy to find, depending how much you want to budget for it. I'm paying 10€ (about $14 or $15) a month to rent a wireless connection from another student in the dorms here, and I understand that I could get my own DSL connection for about 20€ ($30) per month.

Then again, if you really want to learn the language, spending alot of time on your favorite English-speaking forums is probably not a good idea in any case.

That said: Is there a dedicated German speaking Orbiter forum (something like Dansteph's French forums) anywhere on the Web?

*Changes slide*

In this image, we can see an example of a typical South African internet connection.

*Changes slide again*

Seriously folks, if a third world country like South Africa can have internet access (proven by my presence here), a first world, developed country such as Germany undoubtedly does.

So perhaps your activities may prevent you from using the 3001 forums that you are apparently affiliated with as often as you'd want to, but you won't be (pun intended) in the middle of Africa. :p

I hope your meeting with your long-distance girlfriend goes well.

I am interested in the numbers here. 485 forums. If you don't sleep, that's...

3 minutes on each a day,

21 minutes on each a week, or,

1 hour, 23 minutes on each per month.

Conclusion, there had better be internet in Germany, or you'll die of mental inactivity! I really admire you....:tiphat:

Instead of worrying about the Internet connection, better prepare for 230V AC electricity here... Or learning the critical sentences in German, for example "Ich möchte diesen Teppich nicht kaufen", "Ich mag wirklich Kölsch!", "Düsseldorf? Wo liegt das?" and the magic three words you need when the police stops you: "Eishockey", "Kanufahren" und "Wirsing". Right in that order.
