Last week I got to watch my kids march (and dance) in the New Years Parade through downtown London (Westminster actually). The kids had a ball, I enjoyed the show, and everyone seemed to have a great time.

It's difficult to try to see all that London has to offer in such a short period of time, but I did get to see some great sights. The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abby, Oxford, Windsor Palace, and the London Eye are just a few places I got to see and enjoy.

I just wanted to say to all of the English Orbitnauts here on the forum; I/we enjoyed our holiday and hope to visit again, and "mind the gap, please".

PhantomCruiser, you've seen more than I have, and I worked within 10 miles for 30+years! I lie slightly, have been on the London Eye, and it is a great view.
Mind the Gap, happy memories of the Northern Line...

Glad you enjoyed it, come again.

The thing I love most about London is the fact that almost every street you walk down is famous for some reason or other.

You do know that Oxford's a city in its own right and so not 'part of London'? The same way that Scotland's not a part of England.

Hey you couldn't have been more than 2 miles from me then! :)

I heard the bagpipes from the parade from a distance, but didn't get to see anything. Also, Westminster is an amazing area - I absolutely love it! Glad you enjoyed it!

P.S. Next time you come, someone should set up a UK Orbinaut gathering/rendezvous

Oh Yes, Oxford wasn't exactly "way out there" but I did know that it was it's own city. My "best" place to eat was also in Oxford, The Bear (just down from High Street).
I just mentioned Oxford as a place I wanted to see (and did see), due to it's connection to C.S.Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien (as well as a fair share of other notable peoples and Prime Ministers).

I'm not a huge fan of London, but Oxford is brilliant. If you ever get the chance to spend some time in the UK again, head north to Edinburgh for the time of a life.

There was (a long time ago) talk of an OF meetup in London sometime around Christmas 2009. There wasn't enough interest to pursue it though.

Yes, that was something I put forward and meant to raise again but because of some issues at home (namely the dining room ceiling falling down after a flood) there wasn't enough time to arrange it all. Maybe Easter would be a better time for people?

I'd do that, if I could actually get to London... It's a hell of a long way away.

I took a two-day trip to London with school in December, and went to the Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and on the London Eye. It snowed while we were there too - my first snow of this Winter. It's such a great place - so much for everyone. Not good for astronomy though.
