Navy blasts drugs speedboat.

What I want to know is why it took that many rounds to take down a speed boat with no armor and what I have to assume is a relatively thin hull. :P

The answer to both those questions is training :P

Also you only sink a boat by making holes which let water in not air...

If it had foam, then things get harder

Wonder why they didn't confiscate it and sell it?

The Italians have apolicy like that for the baots that carry illegals across from Africa. The smugglers use faster and faster boats, so the Italian border guard confiscate their boats (if they catch them) and then use the boats themselves.

This, and the overdose of Gucci sunglasses, is why Italian police are better than anyone else's.:)

Fair points all, looks better on the recruiting videos too. Thats a big old shotgun.

why didn't they just knock a hole in it while they were onboard(even a single 9mm bullet would have been sufficient, or a hammer) and leave it to sink?

a single small hole won't suffice. It will take weeks to months to sink!

anyways, as I read the first post, I thought the question was why didn't they confiscate and sell the DRUGS, and I was thinking wtf?

Maybe they did...

Sailors don't get to do as much live-fire training as they'd like, especially on targets that actually are boats and not barrels. So if you have no use for the captured drug boat, what the hell...let 'em have it.

a few hours perhaps. but not weeks or months. an a single small hole is more than enough to sink a boat when nothing is pumping the water out again.

Well, dying in a blast is a risk that seems connected to the job of smuggling drugs.
I hope druglord insurances go up so they suffer unaffordable insurance inflation.
