Hee. So what I did was put on infinite fuel and invincibility for the XR2 - I've got an install I have that's specifically designed for that. Book it full speed out to probably 2500AU, then used the scenario editor to reverse my velocity vector - basically multiply my state vectors (dx/dt, dy/dt, dz/dt) by -1.
Once I did that, I went back into the XR2's config file and bumped up the power on the RCS jets just so I could use the translation thrusters effectively at that speed. It still took me 5 or 6 passes on Jupiter to actually hit the atmosphere.
I found something out at this point, since my speed was measured in parsecs/second: If you hit too quickly, even at .1x time accelleration, you'll fly right through the atmosphere and/or planet without even being affected by it. I used the scenario editor once again to reduce my speed until I was going at something like .04AU/s, at which point I was able to "catch" the atmosphere of Jupiter at .1x time accelleration.
As you can see from the second picture, I still had a damned decent amount of speed, even at 80km from Jupiter's surface. If I'd really wanted to, at that point I still had enough velocity going that I -probably- could have gotten away with flipping right-side up again and using the lift to get out of the atmosphere. Keep in mind that none of this works if you haven't disabled all the damage modelling. <_<
The fact that I pushed the dynamic pressure meter into reading AUPa was just a bonus. ^_^
