I have been away from Orbiter for about a year, installed 2010 P1 and feel like a Noob all over again! (I was once quite something in Orbiter development... so long as it didn't involve C++)
I have many questions, but let's try to answer just one: I find that Spacecraft3 animations which use...
I am starting work on version 3 of Skylab1973 a major update including the station's interior. I know that a mesh material can be made self-illuminating by editing the last line of the material's definition section in the .msh file. But when I do this the color of my materials is altered and...
All of my addons meshes are created with AutoCAD, which is NOT an ideal tool for doing this work, but it's what I know. (I'm an architect and have used AutoCAD for 15 years). I export the .dwg model to .3ds, then convert to .msh using both 3ds2msh and MeshMaker which is where the real...
This add-on celebrates the 32nd anniversary of the launches of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 in August and September 1977!
32nd Anniversary?? Well, this is a computer simulation of spacecraft that, for their time, took autonomous computer control to a whole new level. Computers work in base 8...
I normally rely on BurnTime MFD to tell me how much Dv a spacecraft can deliver, but I am currently stacking up some Velcro stages and BT MFD shows Dv for each individual vessel, without adding the mass of the stages attached above. (Clever Velcro does include the mass of attached vessels, so...
I am modeling a TitanIIIE (with Velcro rockets) to launch a Voyager addon I have in progress. I am running into a snag on the 5 segment solid rocket boosters (UA1205). As always, the numbers do not agree among various on-line sources, but they are close enough:
Total Mass: 226,533 kg - 226,800...
I am having a devil of a time finding detailed information on the Voyager 1 and 2 launches.
Voyager 1 was lunched September 5, 1977. This web page from the National Space Science Data Center gives some good details on Voyager's interplentary trajectory...
I am working on a new add-on for the Voyager missions. (That is to say, JPL's real-life twin probes to the outer plantes - not Capt. Janeway's fictional Star Trek command. Then again, V'ger... bu I digress.)
The on-line photos and technical info is remarkably sparse. NASA's and JPL's web pages...
I am playing with some shuttle launches from Vandenberg into polar orbit, but this seems beyond the capabilities of the SSU autopilot.
Has anyone made this work, or do I need to launch to polar orbit manually?
This is a slight revision to the new Skylab1973. Version 2.1 adds a second set of meshes and configs that relocates Skylab's docking target to aligh with the AMSO Command Module docking reticule. See the screen shot...
Version 2.1 contains the complete addon - if you are making your first...
I am enjoying the first season of Mad Men on DVD - a dramatic television series that revolves around a Madison Avenue advertising firm in 1960. The writing and character development are great, but a truely extrodinary thing for this TV series is the attention to the smallest 1960 details. The...
Skylab is bigger and better! Version 2 of Skylab1973 includes Saturn V launcher. The Saturn B1 crew launches can be done with either NASSP or Velcro Rockets/Saturns plus AMSO. The Skylab mesh is improved with a smoother appearance, lower polygon and vertex count and some new animations for use...
I spent some frustrating hours trying to launch an AMSO CSM into LEO with a Velcro Saturn B-I. I have been weaking the PITCHMULTIPLE and MINPITCH trying to make it work.
Has anyone done this? If so, are you willing to share your scenario file?
I plan to release v2 of Skylab1973 shortly and I...
I am pecking away at a Skylab Reuse addon, based on the actual proposal made in 1978. That scheme included a "power module" added to Skylab with two 104 foot long solar panels. The proposal's very small scale sketches give the impression of paired panels extended by a central telescoping mast...
As work progresses on an update of Skylab1973, I am exchanging e-mail with a couple of folks producing addons for the Saturn INT-21 launch vehicle, a Saturn V variant having just the first and second stages.
This vehicle lifted Skylab whole into a high inclination, 430km altitude orbit. It...
I have been searching on-line for some basic information about payload accomodations in the Shuttle payload bay. Can anyone point me to some general info on payload allowable dimensions, attachment points/methods, cargo cradles/pallets? Is any of this stadardized, or is it custom construction...
I am preparing to update Skylab1973: Improve the meshes, add Saturn V launch scenario(s) and add historically based reboost, rehabilitation and reuse scenarios using the Shuttle. I haven't played much with the Orbiter Shuttles, so I have a couple of start-up questions to ask the STS experts out...
All of a sudden, I find that my 2D panel views have the "slows". My display behaves normally in 3D view and in Orbiter normal no-panel views. In 2D it jerks from frame to frame. This happens in the stock Delta gliders and NASSP - apparently any ship with a 2D panel.
Has anyone else experienced...
I just now arrived in this new Orbiter "country" and am having a first look around. (I am an imigrant from M6, trying to learn the customs of this new land - I left M6 for a week and found the gates shut when I tried to get back in!) For starters, I am reading posts about M6, trying to figure...
