Use of Orbiter Sim for Lockheed Martin Design Review

I have done programatic changes in time (skipping forward or backward to a specific MJD). oapiSetSimMJD if i recall, it's been 8 months, and i don't have the SDK in front of me... There's also options associated to it regarding how to propogate the vessels during the time jump.

    Rockets for beginners.

I bought myself a 50 LB bag of KNO3 from a supplier I located on ebay. You should be able to find it from a hobby/fireworks supplier. I personally think it's better to buy the real stuff than to get stump remover or other fertilizer.

    Nozzle Design

ah yes, the quintessential nozzle design! Very good indeed! I would definetely love to make a true De Laval nozzle but I am lacking a lathe! With a lathe I could mill a steel or titanium nozzle, or simply a wooden nozzle in the 'negative' shape to be used for molding cement or other hardened...

    Rockets for beginners.

For a true beginner, I would start by buying kit rockets and motors. Walmart here has a rocket for $19 includes 3 motors. And 3 pack reloads are only $5 a piece. I think the models are a good place to start, because even though they're exceedingly easy to fly, the little things you learn at...

    Skydiving Jump

I like the note about how his parachute would have been set to automatically open at a certain altitude if for some reason he passed out during the fall, yet there was no mechanism to eject him from the capsule if he passed out during the ascent... I wonder how long it would take for the helium...

    Orb:Connect alpha released

I have tested OUIPC extensively locally, on a LAN, and across the internet. Since you're using the server from OUIPC, your application should work just as well over the Internet, however, this all depends on what you're actually trying to do with it. If you're trying to query the simulation...

    Multistage/clustering experience?

I misread the engine type... Yes a C1.3 would burn for 3.8 to 7.7 seconds (7.25 Ns total impulse / 1.3 N average impulse) = 5.5 seconds :-) In Series (Simultaneous) - If an ignitor breaks the circuit no other ignitors will start In Parellel (Sequential) - only one motor will start if the...

    Multistage/clustering experience?

Yea, I've done a couple small 2 stager's. The ejection charge is a pretty big flame even on a small motor. I'd recommend putting them as close as possible and not more than 1 inch away to make sure you get ignition in the 2nd stage. On clustered motors you cannot wire them in parallel because...

    Independence Day

I realize it's only the day before Memorial Day and I realize most of what is getting launched would be better classified as fireworks, but hearing some fireworks today gave me the idea to make a Fourth of July "Independence" rocket... The 5 weeks between now and then should be ample time to...

    Nozzle Design

More pics Note that the deformations in the case did not occur until well after the firing was complete. As the heat permeated through the casing and removal from the motor mount clamps, it caused slight deformations.

    Nozzle Design

Seems as though the last design I used for my motor's Nozzles was a little poor (to say the least). I've been trying to find a quick and easy way to make a good nozzles that doesn't require cutting steel on a lathe (which I don't have)... These were made with a PVC Bushing, a washer, and...

Welcome to Backyard Rocketry :: SAFETY FIRST!

Greetings Orbinauts! SAFETY FIRST! I recommend getting very familiar with the National Association of Rocketry's Safety Guidelines before attempting any form of rocketry! Check here for links to it all: http://www.nar.org/safety.html There are plenty of other rocketry organizations out...

Creating OpenGL Window from Orbiter Add-On

I've been doing work with this making my external/remote MFD application. I believe ExtMFD.cpp and MFDWindow.cpp could help you to get a window initialized. They're in the SDK Samples under ExtMFD. Sorry that I don't have a more specific answer to your question.

    First flight training hours...

I think my instructor had a valid argument. I started 10 years back, and flight sims we're not much like they are today. Graphics were terrible, no multiplayer capability, and the physics were questionable at best. I was using MSFS '98 at the time. I got the same response though that they're...
