ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
Yes, a large flat area is possible.
See this post by jacquesmomo for examples and some "code":
https://www.orbiter-forum.com/threads/area-flattening-experiment-success.37074/post-581120
It requires some trial and error to get right, but it works.
If needed you can define multiple flat...
Being pedantic, at 23:38 on the video, display wavelengths are mentioned:
510nm for early ground testing models; 530nm for flight models.
Running wavelength to RGB converters (https://www.johndcook.com/wavelength_to_RGB.html or https://academo.org/demos/wavelength-to-colour-relationship/) we...
Most of Freedom's hardware, if built, would have been the same as ISS. The final Freedom configuration ("Fred") is basically ISS without the Russian modules.
The main difference is that Freedom had a double row of modules. I think that's it's doable by docking two Nodes side by side.
(Sorry for...
The separate meshes might be useful for others if released as "developer resources".
This happened with the Soyuz 7K meshes years ago and allowed the creation of some nice add-ons.
There are alternate station configurations that might be built out of those modules (ex: Freedom, Polar platform...
Agreed. The "renewable" concept is misleading because you always spend something. A dam, a solar panel, or a wind generator, must be built, transported, and require maintenance. And they occupy space. In the case of solar panels, they need to cover a large area, with obvious impacts on soil...
I'd say focus on what's already simulated like the DPO/DO. Makes perfect sense to use those systems using the correct panels.
As for the VC animation, you can base it on reality and model a cylinder like this:
Then it's a simple rotation animation!
China has improved public communication, especially now with the Tiangong station. They've installed 360 cameras on the outside:
The speed they are building it (automated dockings) and the tech level are really good. For example, the HD camera on the robotic arm requires a decent...
Did you get the required addons first?
"Requires Spacecraft3.DLL , Spaceraft4.DLL and Multistage2015.DLL (NOT included). Also requires Earth_1962 from ESTAR for the scenarios. If unable to obtain, all scenarios will have to be edited to SOL system."
At the very least you need Vinka's Spacecraft...
In those photos there's a lot of cloud cover, and (white) clouds reflect much more light than the (blue) ocean. Under these conditions earthshine might be close to white.
My guess is that the Orbiter understimates cloud cover reflection. Some tweaking towards white (just desaturate it a bit)...
