It's an interesting departure from the open world resource utopia - you can't refine ores and you have to unlock tech, all while fighting for your life and robbing convoys.
Over here it's known as a Totem Flu. Some obscure disease spikes in China, media panic, nothingburger, repeat a couple years later.
