Project Orbiter Battle Simulation Project Needs Developers!

Well i don't have anything to do with this project, and they have the right to do whatever they want with it... But for Orbiter all i really want is to keep those little grey bastards off my pasture.

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

well yes and no, for example it has its hover engines and its perfectly happy monkeying around on the moon, Its built to take people or some valuable, small cargo to LEO or the moon, or even be used just for suborbital hops... and the whole idea is that it can be configured in many different...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

that was not aimed at anyone in particular. you just had bad timing;) Though its possibly just the first of several layouts, the concept of hauling passengers around is perfectly valid and worthwhile, and though others may not agree, its to my mind far more realistic for this design than using...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

well the answer is simple, this particular vessel exists in a solar system in the near future where commercial ventures in space are far more common than scientific. This is more representative of the eagerly anticipated future of making space travel affordable for many more people than today...

There will be ladders in the ceiling, both to provide a means of transit in the vertical, and which also swing down in a couple of places to allow access from the floor to the ceiling exits. Those upper hatches are the only way in or out if its mated to a booster.

There's a certain feathery theme to the panel design which i've accentuated a little more this time around, but it originated from the mk1. the panel lines mainly follow the main lines of the old tiled maps... those gold panels are pretty much the same also in shape, but they used to be dark...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

ok well for a start its totally not meant to look battle damaged... though that is always a nice idea for a texture, but not really appropriate at this point. maybe someone else can have fun making a battle damage skin, i have no time for such frivolity;) I think what you guys are...

Not so much lighting, that image has had a lot of post adjustments that brings out the detail in the texture and give it a more photographic look, so i wouldn't worry about it - If you look closely there are aberations all over the image not just on one line. Had there been a guess the length...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

well for some time now, skills only come with time and practice and the will to keep learning new things, i didn't really have a clue when i first started. I used to try and model on an amiga 1200 back in 1993, with a free copy of imagine 3d which came with a magazine - amiga format iirc...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

now the last thing either of us want is for the xr2 to be an excuse to give up, if it makes someone try harder to broaden their skill sets, or team up with others then all the better. It's not really even all that difficult to model something like this in most apps, a decent looking human face...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

Ah well for anyone, textures take a long time if you're trying to get it right so dont be disheartened. Theres no special trick to turning your model into a 2d projection... You should use any and all tricks you can think of... (baking lighting into a texture is a great, quick way to start a...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

Jeez, you people, have to be more like shinrar and pay attention here.... the airbrake is moved from the elevons to a dedicated upper brake surface in roughly the area that the old radiator used to occupy. the radiators have been relocated to the extending leading edge of the...

Project XR2 Ravenstar - Mk II

Well those are all great ideas, i'm not going to personally make those things or ask doug to code them, but hopefully others will make things that make those compartments useful... well we'll see how it goes anyway. here's some more... note the new ladder which is partly formed from the floor...

Gentlemen, and Ladies... If i may direct your attention to two more attachments contained within this very post, for which i shall also provide captions. figure 1: The only thing this chap is missing are the sports pages, and his intestines. The lack of toilet facilities in its basic spec...

    Question 3dmax Bones Mechanics

no. It would need a special engine or something to handle soft body deformations around an armature, AFAIK, it does not have this. It might be simpler to 'bake' the vertex animation and do it that way, but i doubt that would be easy. Hard body animation, like for the structural parts of a...

yeah the only problem would be how do you tell the passengers where to sit? but you could remove them, then add static meshes of whoever you want.

I don't think anyone has any intention of replacing the XR-5. This thread is the update to the XR2. Thanks whoever updated my user status:thumbup:
