X-37 and The Prince of Darkness 02

The Prince of Darkness is coming! The comet ‘Anduru’ came from deep space into the Solar system. After shedding speed in swing-by maneuvers around the major planets, it ended up in a highly elliptical orbit around Earth. An X-37 space plane is sent to investigate the suspicious comet. The story...

    Orbiter Screenshot Thread

The FalconHeavy is an amazing launcher! Played around with charred textures and the new custom fairing, to give it a 'spaceforce' look. ;)

Request Request for Simple Docking Mission

To my knowledge, there are no scenario scripts in Orbiter. A scenario defines the solar system, the date and the vessel parameters in this very moment. All actions later are either by user input, or by pre-programmed reactions of the vessels.

Request Request for Simple Docking Mission

I think a scenario of the Crew Dragon fits to this specs: Crew Dragon 2022 / DM2 / DM2Docking 31 May 2020 The vessel is already lined up with the docking port. You just need to push forward and correct for the rotation of the ISS.

Vessel Commerical LEO destinations and other space stations

A launch scenario is included. Also Dragon-launch, to bring a crew to Haven-1 station.

Attached is a play-around version VAST-03, now with the cupola on the side and some sauna-like interior. The crew can be shown with [C]. Look back with [E].

    OHM Hera

Very nice and feature-rich addon! Just a small request: Using the Shift modifier key for the reaction wheel control intercepts the Shift-commands of the MFDs. So the MFDs can only be mouse-controlled. Would it be possible to change that to Ctrl+NumPad?

Problem Soft touchdown on Phobos ?

Well, you can visit the Phobos-Monolith with the Janus Expedition in Orbiter 2016. The spacecraft is a re-purposed Lunar Gateway. It lands on its belly and is stabilized by the solar wings. I am not sure how it behaves in Orbiter 2024, but would be interested in a test flight.

    General Question MJD (current date) - 14:51:55 - 60582.619387

Maybe this fits here: When setting the Modified Julian Date (MJD) to zero in the Date.exe tool, it shows this was midnight on 17 November 1858. Was there any special event on this day? Or did a sleepless astronomer say "Hey, its such a lovely night, lets start counting a new date from now."...

    Engine exhaust definitions

Welcome to the topic of Orbiter exhausts! :) The exhaust is a static texture, usually starting at the engine nozzle and extending away from it, being bright first, then tapering off until it vanishes. The contrail is sequence of 'volumetric' clouds, starting near the nozzle and speeding away...

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

Actually the launch scenario is more complex, requires more objects than the orbital scenarios. Only other difference is the Helpscreen in the Orbiter launchpad. Maybe try the attached scenario. It is the same as "Fram2 at South Pole", but with the Helpscreen commented out.

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

That does not sound right. There should only be one Config/Earth/Base/Canaveral.cfg And - if the lc39a_spacex is installed - one in Config/Earth/BaseSpaceX/Canaveral.cfg You might consider a clean re-install of Orbiter and then use a Mod-manager to activate and deactivate addons. ___ Launching...

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

They are a static textures on a very big, thin-walled cylinder. The texture was made quite transparent, to resemble the faint glow of the aurora. Each cylinder is then the only object of a base, located at the pole, at 90° North or South. You can see them as Aurora_north or south at the upper...

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

Updated the download pack to version 01. Added a reddish Northern Light over the North Pole. On the launch date: SpaceX says it will not before end of this year. But in winter the North Pole would be in permanent darkness. So I chose the spring equinox on 20. March 2025 as launch date, which...

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

Thanks for your input! I updated the mission pack to version 00a with your launch scenario. I see, the barge is now a bit further away from the Cuban coast. That may improve international relations ... :)

Project Crew Dragon Fram2 mission around Earth’s poles

As mentioned in the Crew Dragon thread, a private mission is planned to fly over the poles. The mission will be called Fram2, after the polar exploration ship Fram. The attached mission pack contains a launch and a polar fly-over scenario, showing southern polar lights. Please let me know, if...

    New Release Crew Dragon 2022

Great screenshot! How did you add the Aurora Borealis to your picture? B.t.w. I assume they will launch due South from the Cape, but need to avoid the first stage drops on a South American country, in case the retroburn fails.
