    Gale Crater Mesh 2012-08-24

The NASA Mars rover, Curiosity, of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in Gale Crater at 05:32 UTC August 6, 2012. Gale is a crater on Mars near the northwestern part of the Aeolis quadrangle at 5.4°S 137.8°E. It is 154 km (96 mi) in diameter and estimated to be about 3.5-3.8...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

It is the transition from smooth to sharp edges in a group, which give the ugly results when marking everything smooth on export. After import all the groups are flat shaded. What I used to do to cleanup the mesh import on making a .blend file: 1. Select all groups and set smooth in Object...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

I hate options, but as I discovered allmost al the orbiter meshes need labelprefixes I implemented your suggestion. So for people who want to use these exports in other modelling software there is now an option to remove the label prefix if they are numbers. Luckily it is only a problem with...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

On second thought: I want to preserve labelnames if possible, as meaningfull names makes working with many groups/objects in blender a lot easier. So here is my solution: Check if labelnames preserve grouporder on import, if not prefix all the labelnames with groupnumber, else accept the...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

Sounds like a good idea. So simple. One comment. Beware that 1myname is sorted after 10myname, 100myname, you still have to zerofill the numbers, like 001myname etc., in case you didn't know allready. 3 digits seems enough as there are seldom 999 groups or more.

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

    1. after importing in Blender: in Blender set Blender Render (see post Spacenut), and set Viewport shading to Texture in taskbar 3d view, next to object 2. On export textures are copied to PBshuttletex directory in directory Meshes. Either copy this directory to Textures directory, or modify...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

See for a clever use of transparency delta_missions_v1_100930.zip from BrianJ Delta II Missions Vol.1 , KSC LC-17 Pads A & B. Transparency works like a one way screen, so sorting the objects in the mesh is necessary. The last group in the .msh file gets the highest priority. Also use an inside...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

Orbit hangar is the first place where I would search for an Orbiter addon, when it's ready to be released. The benefits are: all in one place, less chance on broken links (even on this forum there are some), more accessible to a larger audience, which leads to more downloads (with a track...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

Hi vlad32768, I downloaded your addon some weeks ago and I must say it's great, it's fast and it works in blender 2.63, which gave me the push to migrate to the new blender. I feared the trouble of converting the old orbiter-mesh import/export addon, but then stumbled upon this one. You...

Maybe you recieved my reply, for me it seemed to vanish in bitspace, so here is my answer: You have to define LAND-PT's when working with vinka spacecraft, or touchdownpoints when making a vessel in orbitersdk and oversize the mass, 10000 i.s.o. 185 and 10000 kf fuel. I first made this as...

Columbia Hills and Spirit landingsite for MER-2003 2009-04-28

The Columbia Hills are located in Gusev crater, an impact crater which looks like a dried up lake about 145 km wide on the southern side of Mars. The hills themselves are about 4 km long and 100 m. high and are now for more then 4 years explored by one of the two Mars Exploration Rovers, MER-A...
