News Worker dies in Russian sport stadium roof collapse.

Those pesky safety regulations are so inconvenient, frustrating and always get in the way... No one ever believes it would be him making the news. I'll get lucky this time. It won't move when my finger is in the way. The building won't fold after this support is cut. So far i haven't seen any...

News Worker dies in Russian sport stadium roof collapse.

The plan was to cut it off from the basket. In practice, he was told to get out of the basket for now. Later, he was told to walk to the next one, so he had to attach the harness to the railing. So he did made it to the basket when things started collapsing, but was dragged back down by the...

Yeah, "Reverse the polarity of electron flow!" sounds fancy, but tend to end with a sudden loud BANG. Had an episode like that last year, with a little cap soldered in backwards - The thing hit me straight in the palm of my hand, so co wide-reaching confetti.

Gaming Space Engineers (now in BETA)

Hm, the idea of hosting a server again is both tempting and depressing. I guess i'll pass on it this time.

News Raspberry Pi computer, is it rational?

With the case, i guess. The benchmark is quick enough that cooling shouldn't matter that much, unless the thing thermal throttles within seconds as some reviews suggested. Is the OS 64bit or 32bit?

News Raspberry Pi computer, is it rational?

So, anyone got a Pi 4 ? If you do, would you mind running some of my benchmarks on it? The thing is kinda pricey around here, and i'm trying to resist the temptation of buying *yet another Pi* just to see what it can do and then drop it into a box of maybe later...

Science Could relatives of measles virus jump from animals to us?

Worst part is, it's mutating. Wakefield linked competitor's vaccine to autism. Media linked measles vaccines to autism. Gossip linked vaccines in general to autism. International memetic mutation spread seeds of "vaccines are bad" everywhere, which caught root on whatever local fertile ground...

Science Could relatives of measles virus jump from animals to us?

It seems to be a plague worldwide, with various flavors in various places. Here in Russia a typical argument i've heard goes "Sure vaccines work. Real ones they gave us back in USSR, not this modern commercial poison". Back when i was in school, parents weren't even asked.

Gaming Space Engineers (now in BETA)

I like two kinds of mods - ones that make a game look better and ones that make the game more interesting. Most of my list are the latter, since i find vanilla game a bit too saturated. Resources are everywhere, enemies are rare and wimpy and never strike first, there are no reasons to go to...

Speaking of mods, here is my selection: -Space Just Got Real https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1136188499 Turns the cheesy nebulae and bright ambient lighting into something a bit more realistic. -Modular Encounters Spawner...

News Windows 7 is setting its sun on 14 January 2020

Hm, it's been a while since i saw software sold on physical media. Music and databases on thumbdrives, but not software. I wonder what's the cost per Gb is nowadays.

Gaming Space Engineers (now in BETA)

I used to find it quickly boring back in the days i hosted a server, but nowadays it suddenly became sustainably interesting. The addition of planets really changed the dynamics of the game, and made it possible to have a variety of permutations of fun and things to do, especially with a few...

News Windows 7 is setting its sun on 14 January 2020

It would have been easier if there was more options for Windows. I still use Windows XP in a virtual machine to run a certain WINE-incompatible program, and use XP instead of 7 because it takes 10 times less space. No idea how to even approach this if i only had Win 10 available.
