The fast battleship USS North Carolina (BB-55), nicknamed "The Showboat", was the lead ship of North Carolina-class battleships and the first modern American battleship to enter service during World War II. She took part in every major naval offensive in the Pacific Theater of Operations to become the most highly decorated American battleship of World War II, accumulating 15 Battle Stars. The sister ship, the USS Washington (BB-56) has the distinction of being the only American battleship to sink an enemy battleship during World War II in a "one on one" surface engagement (the Japanese battleship Kirishima).
At the beginning of the war, The North Carolina was the most powerful battleship of the US Navy, with a main battery of nine 406 mm and twenty 127 mm guns. During the war, was followed by the even more powerful South Dakota and Iowa class battleships.
After the war, the USS North Carolina was saved from demolition, restored and preserved as museum and memorial. Today is anchored at Wilmington, N.C.
This addon is an accurate rendition of this beautiful ship. Some details can be improved, but the overall appearance is realistic. The model has no textures; the mesh has about 80,000 polygons, so use it carefully if you have a low end system. The ship has no engines and is only for static display; although anachronistic, can be cool to add in your "capsule recovery" scenarios in the ocean. ;-)
