Looking at Google Earth historical imagery, it looks like the lakebed markings were washed out in Oct 2012 and redone in Sep 2015. Any imagery from then or later should be much, much better.

Ah, thank you for that. I looked for an option, but didn't think I'd find it under "performance options" I get 29FPS with ClearType off, 27 with it on. Not much of a hit, but it's not zero either. Guess I'll just force it on on exit.

When it DOES crash, it disables ClearType fonts. That's not a deal-breaker, but it is...annoying.
