Flight Question Encounter planet with correct LAN

The only way to choose a specific LAN and inclination is to control the precise arrival time of day at the planet. This is easier when you are far away so it needs to be planned in advance. I'm sure there are MFDs that can help with this.

Project AIA Toehold Project (Space Station)

Yeah, the moon's nodes precess, making a complete loop every 18 years and change. The ecliptic inclination stays the same but this precession causes the moon's equatorial inclination to vary by about 10 degrees over the course of the 18 year cycle. In astronomical terms, when the moon's...

    OHM Enhanced Base Textures

Yeah looks better now... though now it has the typical aliasing artifcats of a non mipmapped texture, but I think it looks better than that annoying blur out. I wonder if there's something that can be done to make the filtering be so ugly at shallow angles?

    Star Party Video

I'm an astronomy buff, and own a few telescopes. Ironically, it was Orbiter that sparked my interest in astronomy... So it's pretty appropriate I post this here :) I made a video of a star party a friend and I attended a couple months ago. It can be viewed here (best to click on the title and...

    OHM Enhanced Base Textures

Well it's bilinear texture filtering. I assume your texture is MIP mapped? It seems orbiter is a pretty nasty LOD bias at low angles of viewing or something because it filters that way too much at close range there. I think the only way you can fix it is by getting rid of the mip maps and just...

    OHM Enhanced Base Textures

Hey Spike, I like the texture pack. There is one issue with it that I've noticed though... The MIP maps of the runway texture seem to have some problems or something. The texture filtering is causing very low LOD textures to show up too close, so the runway appears to blur out when looking down...

    New Release XR2 Ravenstar 1.0 / XR1 1.5 / XR5 Vanguard 1.2 Released

That's true... but there's also a bit of a trench through that top flat part which might compensate... Anyway I think 9.25 is probably too large but hey, it's your (very awesome) ship, and it's not as if it matters that much :) I already did that :) I also updated the cargo containers to...

Question XPDR and NAVFREQ in scenario files

The number in these settings is the number of 0.05 steps above 108 the frequency setting is. So, if it said 100, that would be 113.0 (0.05 * 100 = 5 + 108 = 113). The XPDR setting is the transponder setting for the ship. The NAVFREQ setting is the nav frequency settings for the ship. Some will...

    New Release XR2 Ravenstar 1.0 / XR1 1.5 / XR5 Vanguard 1.2 Released

I've attached an image below to show how I arrived at my volume. I calculated it in two sections. The bottom section is straightforward, it's 3.28 * 1.454 * 1.454 = 6.9343 m3. The top section is also pretty easy. I figured it's height by looking at the sides of the bottom section and noting they...

    New Release XR2 Ravenstar 1.0 / XR1 1.5 / XR5 Vanguard 1.2 Released

I want to thank Doug Beachy for releasing these awesome ships! I really love the XR2. It's slick looking and is just the right size I think. The ability to carry extra fuel and LOX is also a really cool thing. In fact, that is the main reason I'm writing this post. I've made some...

IMFD Interplanetary Course plane mode issue

I think I've tried that and still have the same problem but I'll try again to make sure. Update: I just tested it. I always change source to self after leaving Earth's SOI so I knew I had done that in the past. With Realtime mode on, the plane change maneuver location always stays 90 degrees...

Getting back into Orbiter, having fun

So I've started playing around with Orbiter again lately. I got into this sim a number of years ago... probably 2003 or 2004? Anyway, I stopped playing with it a little while after 2006 patch 1 came out and haven't touched it since. Now I'm back and I remember how cool it is. I just started...

Advanced Question IMFD Planet Approach to ISS

As others have mentioned, while IMFD can help you insert at a particular equatorial inclination, there is no way to really control your LAN independently of the inclination during approach. The only real way to do that is change your arrival time so that your LAN is equal to your target's when...

IMFD Interplanetary Course plane mode issue

I'm using IMFD 5.3 and have been running missions to Mars. I've been using a November 2009 launch window. Based on what I get from IMFD, the Target Plane mode seems to be the most efficient. Based on what I can see, this mode sets a plane change maneuver at 90 degrees from your starting...

    Correcting retrograde orbits

IMFD has a planet approach program in the Course section. Set the reference to the planet you are approaching. You can also set a target moon if you want to use that to help you get into a particular orbit around the planet to match a moon. In this program, you can set a deired Periapsis...
