I got a bug report to make. When I try to run Open Orbiter 2024 using MOGE at 1440p, or any resolution above 1440p, I get the Initialising 3D environment with a hardware device error, and Orbiter fails to load. Using any resolution below 1440p, orbiter works as expected. No such issue with dx9...
The old base tile format still works with both legacy and default 2016 format. However it will be floating at the old altitude 0 level, corresponding with Earth's curvature, and not placed on the actual terrain altitude which maybe above or below the Earth's curvature level at that particular...
I believe this fits your request better.

SSV is more of a continuation of Space Shuttle Ultra, it goes more in depth than STS2016.
Whereas STS 2016 is a replacement for Shuttle Fleet for Orbiter 2010
You do know Orbiter post 2016 has recently(in 2022) gone full open source that too using the MIT license on GitHub, right? It's possible for you to build your dream Orbiter v2 now. The process has already been started by Orbiter's founder and he continues to contribute to the repo and many other...
I downloaded the latest release artifact from the orbiter repo on GitHub, then followed the process for installing a working copy of OpenOrbiter, which is
Get a working copy of Orbiter 2016 with all the high res textures
Then extract OpenOrbiter to another folder
Specify the PlanetTex dir in...
Hmm, this means another feature is left over pending for reimplementation in OpenOrbiter, because I remember orbiter 2006 and 2010 showed the shadow of the moon moving across the earth's surface
I think something will be done about the trains and monorails and beacon arrays and solar panels and...
Yes there is a solar eclipse scenario included with orbiter by default. Atleast the MOGE client supported casting of celestial body shadows in previous Orbiter versions, have not checked with orbiter 2016 or open orbiter yet
IIRC, Orbiter does simulate the casting of shadows by celestial objects on other celestial objects already. So you can observe solar eclipses from Earth's surface, and from orbit, can see the Moon's penumbra and umbra moving across the earth's surface. Conversely, lunar eclipses can also be...
Is there anyway one can convert the meshes for asteroids and minor gas giant moons(available as add-ons) into the quad tree format to get Landable surfaces?
Yes, there have been updates, but only in the forum and on GitHub. If you want to try the latest development build, you can get it under the tags in the release section in GitHub. Have a read through the GitHub readme description on how to install and use the latest development build. It has...
@jameswebb. Have you taken a good hard look at whatever is happening on the forum, and orbiter development in general, nowadays?
Or did you directly jump to the conclusion that Orbiter is dead and fading away?
Good things take time. Orbiter is keeping up with the times. In its own way.
It...
