Who flies Orbiter in real time?

I highly suspect that interplanetary flight would be more accurate in real time, since it allows shorter time steps in the simulation and IIRC Orbiter uses a lower order propagator at high time acceleration.

For instance, I suspect that some to most inaccuracy in the IMFD n-body predicting Map is due to numerical error in the simulation itself, and not the fault of the map.

It would be interesting to see how much delta-V savings there would be in MCCs by doing a mission in real time versus under high acceleration.

Hi, guys!

I never use time acceleration. I only use real time!

Cheers,
Vincent

You should join twitch.tv and stream your space travels for the world to see.

You flew to Mars in *real* time? That's incredible patience! I can't even fly a 15 minute sub-orbital flight without smashing the timewarp key!

Actually, I have flown one mission in "sorta" real-time in July apart of NASAspaceflight's recreation of Apollo 11 for the 45th anniversary, but I cheated several times throughout the mission.

I don't like smashing the warp time key, it's better to change the date jejeje

Except that when you do this you loose a lot of accuracy, as the propagator that moves the date forward like that makes several huge assumptions (can't remember them off hand) and ignores many subtle effects that build up over time (again, can't remember them off hand)

I couldn't afford flying in real time, given RL's constraints and the little freetime left.
No way.

Not to mention that some of us use our computers for work as well and can't afford to perpetually tie them up with Obiter running.

Hi, n122vu!

How do I join twitch.tv and stream my space travels for the world to see? Thanks!

Cheers,
Vincent

I think that the "epic space travels" by Vinny5000 are in real time.

Hi, boogabooga!

Great! Thanks! I'll check it out!

Cheers,
Vincent

David 413 did some of his Shuttle/ ISS mission with real time scenarios. It would be great to see an addon that you could call up the ISS in real time and track it.

Do you mean that the ISS in orbiter is at the exact location as the real ISS?
If yes: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2617"]Scenario Editor TLE[/ame]

You just have to search for the latest TLE data (http://www.celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/ for example)

could you please post a link to those videos?
There are no such videos (may I add: "luckily"?).

It's a sort of experiment Vinny is doing on his own, and sometimes he announces his progress here on OF.
There is a dedicated thread somewhere.
