Why do you use Orbiter?

I'm a private pilot with a lifelong admiration for airplanes and flying in general. Only recently, however, I have become interested in space flight and its implications after watching the final missions of the Space Shuttle.

Since such interest arose, Orbiter, with its outstanding and realistic mathematical models, has been vital for me to learn more about actual orbital mechanics and explore this new curiosity.

After I joined this forum, I started wondering what for do other people might use Orbiter. Maybe learning too? Entertainment? Or something else?

So, in short, why do you use Orbiter?

Why do I use Orbiter, hmmm... I tried to use a crowbar, but it didn't work so...

I use it for creating scene studies to make sure my imagination and physical reality coincide as I write science fiction. Both the addons I've posted on Orbiter-Hanger are from the first book in a series of 3 I'm writing. And the ZTC-B52 catamaran I'm working on now actually is helping me revise the beginning of this first novel.

The older I get, the less draw I have to video games. But I really like simulators, and Orbiter's the only one I've actually got.

Just because it's so awesome!

I don't know. It is very addicting. I do not like flying historical missions per se, even though I have had a blast flying Apollo 8,9,10, and 11 in AMSO, but rather flying new missions, and giving myself new objectives and seeing if I can do it.

And rockets are cool. And there is nothing like manned space flight.

Learn something about flying the mega-complex machines like Apollo CM for e/g.

And because it is the closet thing to being in space I can experience on a daily basis

To set the mood for an evening with all the nice planetscapes and stuff that can be had by putting a ship into orbit..
