Working on the radiator and solar panels. Trying to see which plane for the solar panels and radiators.
Right now I have the solar panels at yz and radiators at xz

More interior. Redid the center section. They travel thru the decks via the hole in the center.

VAST Station Version 02
This now a dll-version, supporting key commands and a very basic station interior.
Found out that the forward and backward thrusters must be angled outwards. Otherwise the RCS-axis Up-Down would be missing.

Note that 'forward' is towards the docking port. The main thrusters act backwards, like they do on the Dragon capsule.
To raise orbit, the vessel must be oriented retrograde before firing.

Keys
[E] Toggle camera view between forward and backward looking.
[C] Show the Crew
[S ] Extend / retract the solar panels (just a status change)
[F8] Show / hide the virtual cockpit.
I don't think it would ever need up down translation.

Very nice! 👍

With the number of new LEO destinations increasing, we should have closer look on their potential orbits.
The inclinations could be:
  • Due East from the Cape (as in the test orbit here), with the least launch energy, but a coverage of the equatorial area only
  • ISS co-orbit, which allows to use proven launch and abort scenarios, and gives a fair coverage of mid-latitudes
  • Higher inclination, which would improve the coverage of Canada and Skandinavian countries, as well as South America and Southern Africa.

The orbit altitude should be high enough to minimize orbit reboost maneuvers. The orbital lifetime is estimated to be:
Satellite AltitudeLifetime
200 km1 day
300 km1 month
400 km1 year
500 km10 years

The ISS is currently at 400 km, Tiangong is at 340 - 450 km. Modern launchers and manned spacecraft can go beyond that. I think an altitude of 450 - 500 km would be a good compromise. Not much seems to be published on orbits of future space stations. Would somebody know a paper or website, where such things are discussed?

Except for Axiom, which will co-orbit the ISS until the latter is decomissioned, we know virtually nothing about the specific orbital parameters for either Orbital Reef, Haven-1, or Starlab. All we know is that they are going to be placed in LEO

Mixture of both. You can see the centrifuge. Maybe I will have it rotate?
