I didn't know Top Gear was a hit in the U.S, considering that Jeremy Clarkson makes fun of Americans so much:p

We're not your typical americans. Only I was born here. And we tend to with all humanity! True how it's said you don't even have to be into cars to enjoy the show, That's true for me! I'm not really into cars but it's fun to watch! I love the humor and all the fun stuff they do!

From what I read they are talking with virgin. That means that they will be far from beeing in orbit, just pretty high up :)

Still an awesome show!

When I first saw that I couldn't stop laughing for a long time! One of the funniest things they ever did! I wonder how it would have went if seperation worked. That car didn't look very flight worthy. I didn't expect it to go very well one way or another! How much might that have cost?

They should've had a failsafe manual/mechanical ET jettison available. I think it would've been absolutely amazing to see it actually work even after the engines failed.

Of course, what they really should've done is had the "SME"s actually work instead of crapping out, but hey.

Does anyone know if it was actually a failure of the engines in the ET or if they just miscalcuated the thrust they'd need?

The link that attached the shuttle to the ET was a little bit off. That was it.

If it had seperated, R/C_Man would have had a fun time!
Probably the shortest stopping distance for a Reliant Robin as well.

If this happens, I will probably drop dead from the sheer awesomeness of it. I'm a huge Top Gear fan.

The engines worked fine, the only bit that didn't work was the separation.
It was known a few hours before launch that the separation would be a failure (the launch had to be that day and a spare part was needed...no possibility of getting it in time).
Because of this the Top Gear producers decided to go ahead with the launch and film the separation failure as if it was completely unexpected. A small fire source was added to the vehicle to make it look more dramatic, but everyone involved knew it wouldn't work.

Television, lied? to me?

It was still quite spectacular. I'm glad they're trying rockets again.
