Our Lunar Orbit insertion burn was performed using a combination of 8 EHEs over the course of 2 hours. It was decided not to use any EHE for more than 30 minutes at a time for a long duration burn. Exactly why our EHEs failed during the Earth Closest Approach burn is still under investigation but preliminary analysis shows that the initial 4 EHEs overheated during the long burn and this caused some sort of explosive event which caused damage to nearby EHEs. This information will be critical to know for the upcoming SSTV-02 mission to Pluto.

We are currently taking a 12 hour break from nearly constant delta V burns while we coast in our highly elliptical Lunar orbit. We shall make a total of 5 orbits of the Moon before we lower our orbit down to the 100 km circular orbit of the Lunar Station. We should dock with the Lunar station less than a half orbit later, ending Mission 2.

5 EHEs are red and the remainder of the boards are green at this time.

The remaining milestones for this mission:
  • T+395 Days Arrival at Lunar Station and end of SSTV-01 Mission #2
