step-by-step creating a .config file

i am trying to make a add on it would be nice if there is somone or a site i dont mind that can list all of the things you find inside a ship's .config file and what they do

Head to the main orbiter site and look for the SDK.

Download it and unzip it to your orbiter file.

Go to the doc section in the SDK and look at the 3D models pdf file.

The contents will be able to tell you were the config file parts are.

You might try browsing Vinka's Spacecraft3 documentation as well, although many of the fields are only applicable to .ini files and not .cfg's. Still, many translate directly across and there are some great examples.

I wonder about the SC3 example files... why is there some CFG files included? are they called out just like the ini's or can you access those vessels by placing the cfgs into the vessel folder?

With SC3, the .cfg files direct Orbiter to the .ini files contained in the Config/Spacecraft directory. Likewise, the .cfg directs Orbiter to fire up Spacecraft3.dll.

However, many of the things that the SC3 .ini files do are exactly the same as a .cfg file that's not connected to Spacecraft#.dll. For example, the ship parameters (size, weight, full mass, etc) and docking port coordinates can all be set in the .cfg if you're not using SC3.
