The after-release fuss is dying down, most serious troubles seem to be fixed, only one update to version 0.6 is left to finish, and that not too big either. There will probably be another update on 0.6 once a new Orulex version comes out, which will be on tuesday, for all I know.

I am pleased that Orbiter Galaxy has managed to give birth to its first offspring at such an early stage that I hope will come in handy for other add-on developers, see [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4976"]here[/ame].

Now that everything is quietening down again, I can start to focus on version 0.7, which will include a major overhaul of planetary and stellar generation routines. The galaxy will look severely different when that job is done, and hopefully more realistic.

However, thinking about the challenges ahead, it becomes ever so clearer that if I do this alone, the results will not be what they could be. I can make sense of most concepts, but when it comes to actual maths all I can get done is a bit of improvising or very rough aproximations. Until now that was enough, since StarGen did all the physical processes for me, but now I'll have to add a number of them, and my maths simply aren't up to the task. I would mostly be improvising on some vague scientific basis, but the hard scientific stuff is firmly out of reach of my limited education. And a better education is firmly out of my reach for time reasons.

So, for best results, I'll need somebody to help me out with the scientific stuff. That somebody doesn't neccessarily need programming knowledge (indeed, expierienced coders run a risk of suffering slight brain damage by looking too closely at my code, I'm afraid), but he has to know his physics and his maths.

I will shortly define the exact nature of the job, since I don't intend to get into trouble with that person later on because of unclearly defined conditions :

The cooperation would only be until completion of version 0.7 (estimated developement time: a year at most, 6 months at best). I will ask for no further commitement, but further commitement can be negotiated if you are still interested after that time and we get along well. If you are interested, you should really be ready to make the commitement to see it through.

The job is pretty simple in its outlines: I'll tell you what I need, you'll come up with the formulae, or maybe with a more in-dept concept. For example, I'll tell you: "I need to calculate the increase of surface temparature of a planet because of tidal heating". Or: "I need a simplified aproximation for orbital migration within a system, that provides believable results but doesn't require thousands of iterations". (Both of these are actual tasks, and the second probably one of the toughest things in the whole project.)

If you can code, You can (if you want) directly plug the stuff into the code yourself, but it's not an obligation. Writing it up and plugging it into the code won't be much trouble for me once I have the math.

You may give input and suggestions for the project on a general scale, but we'll work according to my priorities. I'm not too rigid with them, but the clearly defined goal of 0.7 is to revise the generator and get the FTL-system implemented (second will be majorly my job, but you're free to make suggestions for the concept, of course). So if you start discussing a concept for interstellar commerce, I won't be too thrilled. That one isn't planned until 0.8.

I would like to offer you half my kingdom and my daughters hand in marriage as reward, but unfortunately I have neither. So a co-authorship is all I have to offer.

If someone is interested, please send me a p.m. If no-one calls in, I'll just have to go on with what improvisations I can come up with. Note that sending me a pm does not constitute commitement neither by you nor by me. You're free to ask any questions you might have before deciding wheather or not you want a part in it. And I am free to ask you any questions before I decide you're the right man/woman for the job (well, project-related questions anyways  )

almost a hundred views, no-one yet interested in the job. Looks like I'll have to go on sucking stuff out of my fingers as I go along. It isn't unexpected, since there are not too many qualified and most of them are engaged in their own projects. The community will just have to life with me posting some weird questions in the physics forum every other day, then...

This weekend is the official start of 0.7 developement. Let's see where this is going to take me.
