Or the flag of the United Nations.. quite nice-looking if you ask me..

Also, if there is to be a doctor aboard... could it be named Leonard McCoy?

Um...I cannot fathom the UN deserving their flag on Mars...

I think an OFMM flag is in order, if a flag there must be. And for that, we finally need a graphic. Any takers? (Fairly low-priority right now anyway.)

I like the idea of a Dr. Schweiger on board though, if not as the medical doctor. It just seems safer that way.

I could try and figure out WHAT to draw, but I can't do vectors for Cucumber Pepsi, so someone else would have to do that from my sketches. I guess it would be a better job for someone more capable, but it's the least I can do...

Also, we could leave a pocket-sized Probe monument there and make everyone happy...

An even better 'render' would be to use MS paint ;)

He's referring to this retarded conversation I had.

But, you asked for it. ;)

P.S. I promise to shut up and stay on topic after this. :blahblah:

GETTING BACK ON TOPIC NOW...

Assuming a crew of eight, how are these people going to get through the 18 months (as I recall) between launch windows and (hopefully) reinforcements?

I know there will be stuff to do, but a year and a half's worth? Will there be entertainment? Additional cargo runs from Earth to Mars to bring them more experiments?

Well, looking at what we already know about the needed work, we can be happy if the people have some free-time at all.

Alone deploying the greenhouses would not be done in a day, tending the green houses could easily take a few hours per day, since you basically need every astronaut to grow his own food. And plants won't be enough, we would also maybe need some fish as supplement.

Should I call NASA and ask them to take a look and what we are doing?

If we bring all the Metroid games and the box sets of Red Dwarf and BSG, it might last them the way there.

As for telling NASA, I guess only good could come from it. Although the best I can see is being invited to Yuri's Night to be displayed as an example of motivation.

The problem isn't so much the length of the trip as the length of time between Earth-Mars launch windows, which as I said can be a year and a half. During that time, it is impossible to send a supplement to the crew due to the amount of energy expended in transit being exponentially greater, and difficult at best to get cargo over in transfers taking many times the length of the initial 'Mars Run.'

And I have to say, Red Dwarf would be one of the last things I'd want to watch while on my way to Mars... No matter how 'smegging' long the trip was.

I believe we went over the idea of telling NASA, and it was decided that we'd only do that once there is something solid to show them (IE mission was more or less finalised.) I don't know how helpful it would be, but I'm sure NASA's PR department (which seems to be at least 50% of the entire organisation the way things have been going recently ) would appreciate it.

And what's wrong with being invited to Yuri's Night??

Just be glad there's no cat on board, and hopefully our toaster won't be that annoying.

Yeah, I guess let's keep it to ourselves until we have the good stuff done. And don't get me wrong there. Yuri's Night is not only cool, we'd also be able to spread the word of Probe through partying!

I seem to recall the idea of contacting NASA to have been rejected. That was at the stage when we were all just throwing outlandish ideas out there. I can't remember exactly though.

As for a flag, I'll try to whip one up in GIMP. I'll base it off of the whole Prometheus idea I suppose.
