Mr. Tunde,

As I write, I am preparing my XR-1 for takeoff. I can make a flight to return your cousin, and can undercut the Russians' price: I ask for only two million dollars, which your cousin can pay upon his return to Earth. Please let me know if you are interested.

Linguofreak.

"I am told this will cost $3,000,000 American Dollars" - they lied you, Dr. Tunde. Due to considerable inflation accumulation since 1989, your cousin's entire trust is barely enough to send another Progrezzzz to Salyut 8T to keep up his good humor. And you've got to be quick...

Dr. Tande

I would like to help you I run a rather big spaceflight company.
I regret to inform you that our only available means of transport to save your cousin is an Orion.
So I do hope your cousin can survive a few more years while the craft is being developed.
I will let you know when the spacecraft is ready to fly, although to be honest I'm not quite sure either.

Yours sincerely Charles Bolden, NASA Administrator.

PS: Still waiting on the Ares I also so I hope your cousin is patient.

Oh, this is total crap.

Who in their right mind would actually believe in this? Even if I was a millionaire I would not give 3 million to some random person. If you organized a flight to go in space, you should certainly be prepared to come back. And those numbers he has? Probably made them look real by using a special receiver that makes it look like you are in one location, but are really not.

This is still making me laugh.

If I remember correctly the military version of Salyut (designed by Valentin Glushko and technically called Almaz) is very similar in design to the other Salyuts but lacks one of the modules or something.

Here's a link to a picture of an Almaz:

BTW, didn't this really happen to a cosmonaut in 1989? He broke the record for solo spaceflight if I remember correctly. Over a year or something.

The thing is just, that there was no military Salyut. ^^

The military branch of the DOS stations was called Almaz.

Also, if you would insist on proper version numbering, Salyut-8T would be a transport or ferry adaption of Salyut-8. Not a military complex.

Almaz-T did actually exist - it was a unmanned radar satellite, based on the Almaz station hull.
