Question installing dx11 client

I have read every thread , post and tutor i can find on installing the directx 3d client i can find. every attempt causes a ctd . Is it just not made for windows 7 to use? Is there a certain prob with video i should know about? Is ATI working with the current release? i see no reason to try again, unless someone has a tutor for dummies somewhere that I have missed. two days of updates and installs and its always the same problems. is there a client that works with the stable version of orbiter? I have updated window 7, the update of DX june from the site with the install instructions, followed the instructions to the letter 10 times with no results other than a crash to desk top. id like to see the better graphics but to me its not worth the constant trouble at this point. any help ?

Hi Charvey.

What model of ATI is your graphics card?
Where did you install Orbiter?
Also, IIRC, D3D11 client is only compatible with Orbiter 111105 Beta.

I installed the 111105 beta. and the suggested patch + the suggested DX update from the same page. as a linux fan (i hate DX anyway) i might try the Open GL as i did not see that before. but any suggestions you have for windoz ill sure look at.

EDIT: sorry, i installed it on my desktop with my other orbiter install. i use the .zip version. and yes i made sure i put the stuff in the right one <laughs>

Any more information about the CTD? Maybe there's exception dialog box which can show more details or something is logged into orbiter.log (or if the D3D11Client creates its own log, then inside that log)?

i might try the Open GL as i did not see that before.

There is also D3D9Client available, unless you install them only for the terrain visuals.

Isn't the desktop a (kind of) "protected" folder?
I'm still on XP.

No. You don't need Administrator privileges to read or write on your desktop, or in your documents (unless you launch Orbiter as another user).

sorry so long for reply, real life got busy.
ok , so i tried the dx9 version of the client. worked fine. installed my game with the client, then added the addon's with no errors. i guess the direct x 9 version is a bit more stable than the direct x 11 version. i have way better graphics , better frame rates and NO ctd issues at all. all i like is the moon base alpha which i would not see a problem with as everything els installed with out issues. thanks for the suggestions ,
