Continuing a streak of commercial successes, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is about to fly yet another fully booked commercial flight for their mainstay rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
This time all 6 satellites come from one of the world's most best known "city states" of the world - Singapore!
The main payload is the country's first commercial Earth imaging satellite - TeLEOS-1. Its 1 meter resolution is roughly the gold standard of today's satellites, but it has one distinction among others: most satellites of this type go into polar orbits, while TeLEOS-1 will enter a 15 degree inclination orbit 550 km high, allowing great coverage of the equatorial region (and of course its homeplace).
5 other small satellites from there will be flying on board too, coming from 2 of Asia's best universities - the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Like many other small satellites from academic institutions, they will test Earth imaging cameras, various new technological features and serves as probes for the ionosphere.
This launch marks the 5th satellite launch of the year for India, and with their low wage and having at least one reliable rocket, their adventure into space seems to be going on pretty well. Let's see what 2016 will bring to them! :tiphat:
