Any takers on a Buran shuttle?

If you get a password request when extracting, the password should be "energy".

I'm very interested in Polyus!

The model of Buran doesn't seem to be very accurate. 3 SSME-like engines and engines on the sides?

Me too, I had thought about meshing it. ;)

I think that's a variant of the Buran. There are many of them on the page.

Also, no engines on the Energia core stage. Looks like a re-textured STS to me.

No, look on the page, the picture is a Buran VARIANT.

This is the real Buran model:

The Energia train on the webpage is made by Yuri Kulchitsky, small world isn't it! ;)

Why are the engines on the Buran and not on the core stage? Why!?

It just looks so odd!

(Also, some of the "engined Burans" shown there, look quite STS-like... the front end looks much more like STS than Buran).

Can we reuse /redistribute / change the meshes for Orbiter ? Not clear about the copyright the status.

Why are the engines on the Buran and not on the core stage?

The aero-tester version has jet engines so that it can take off from a normal runway. It is accurate.

The orbital version has maneuvering engines like this:

Unknown, but you can E-mail the webmaster at [email protected]

On another note, if you're having trouble discerning what types of variants are shown, a pictoral explanation is here:

To sum up, www.buran.ru is a great site to use in future reference, it is available in both English and Russian format but I would go for the Russian website because it is better in terms of content.

I'm not talking about the aerotester at all. I hope I should know the difference between a rocket engine and a jet engine!

That is only one of the variants of which there is a model of, and apparently one that was being considered back in the day. There's also a model of the Buran (and Energia) as we know it.
