Hi,

I am brand new to the community. In fact, I haven't even had a chance to fly yet. Slow network to waiting for the download :tiphat:

Welcome to Orbiter. I recommend installing the D3D9 graphical client as well before your first flight. You probably want sound as well which does not come with the Orbiter download. So there are a few things to do. Drop any questions here and we'll help you out.

Thank you. What do I do with these D3D9 files?

You are not a Gamma Ray fan by chance because of the thread title?

What do I do with these D3D9 files?
I made an ENG tutorial some years back, but I've just checked it and it's fairly outdated:
https://tuttovola.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=1000

Anyway, unzip into your Obiter2016 folder the D3D9 client you can download from here:
https://www.tuttovola.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=1104

Unzip into your Obiter2016 folder the surface microtextures.
Download from Jarmonik's site:
http://users.kymp.net/p501474a/Orbiter/MicroTextures.zip

Launch "Orbiter_ng.exe" (NOT "orbiter.exe")
In the Launchpad, select your Modules tab
Activate D3D9Client
Activate DX9ExtMFD
Go to Video tab, click Advanced
Click on Create symbolic links, then Yes
Enjoy

This way you configured your orbiter_ng (ng = no graphics) to use the D3D9 external graphics client.
The other exe (orbiter.exe) contains Orbiter's default D3D7 graphics engine.

You can launch both to see the visual differences for yourself.

I suggest getting the graphic client working before adding any add-ons.
Just try things out with the default situations and vessels.

Once you get it working, go for sound and MFDs.
But go one by one, activating an testing.
