After a few minutes of run time I get this error:

D3D9-Error.jpg

This happens anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes after starting. Even if I press no keys, sitting on the runway or actively in flight.

Do you have any screensaver active? That might interrupt the connection to the Direct3DDevice.

No active screensaver. Could McAfee LiveSafe be an issue? I don't like the thought of disabling my anti virus program.

This can also happen if UAC triggers a popup. (If you were doing something else on the PC while Orbiter was running)

@Sraepaly, thanks for providing the D3D9ClientLog - but sadly enough, that log can not contain the reason for the interruption.
While @STS talks about popups, any background task (like a chat or system monitoring app) that might pop up on the screen?
A "low battery" or "high CPU usage" warning could also be a candidate.

...and, your're right: disabeling your anti-virus software is not an option!

Ah, by the way: Have you tried window-mode vs. full-screen, if that makes any difference?
In window-mode you might have a better chance in seeing what might cause the interrupt.

Not doing any other tasks. And a correction to the title of this post, This was with the 2016 version of Orbiter. The other version doesn't kick me out with an error but does lose mouse focus after some time with no mouse or keyboard input. I'll post the correct Orbiter log here...\/ \/ \/ \/

Just another idea I had: Did you overclock your graphics? That could lead to "device removed" exceptions any time.

No system modifications of any kind. System is brand new and I am not one to mess with things I don't understand or that may cause problems.

The natives call it Earth
Win10 has it's quirks, especially on laptops. Any new programs installed lately? Or some Windows settings changed? You may find an answer by looking back at some things you have done before this happened.
