Amongs many other "projects" I've finaly put together a (I hope) working version of my Brazilian Space Program add-on.

As I tend to forget to include meshes, textures, etc, I ask you to beta test it and report what's broken :lol:
You will need SC3 + Multistage for it to work.

For this first release, I've included:

The Alcantara Launch Center

The CLA is Brazil’s spaceport. Located near the equator, it has excellent conditions for rocket launched. There are two pads.
• The VLS pad, complete with the new Mobile Integration Tower (TMI – torre móvel de integração) and rocket stand is used for the VLS and VLM rockets.
• The universal pad complete with the launch tower is used for sounding rockets such as the VS-40.
Surface tiles and generic blocks make up the rest of the base.
There is also a military runway closeby, setup as a another base (Base de Alcantara).

The VLS-1 satellite launcher(Veículo Lançador de Satélites)

The VLS-1 has three solid fuel rocket stages and boosters, and is capable of placing a 380 kg satellite into a 750km orbit. It’s arranged in the following configuration:
Stage 0 - four S-43 rocket engines
Stage 1 - one S-43TM rocket engine
Stage 2 - one S-40TM rocket engine
Stage 3 - one S-44 rocket engine

The VLM-1 microsatellite launcher(Veículo Lançador de Microssatélites)

VLM-1 is based on the S50 rocket engine capable of orbiting satellites up to 150 kg in circular orbits ranging from 250 to 700 km. The first two stages will use the new S50 solid fuel engine, with the third using the same S-44 engine as VLS and VLM
• Stage 1 - S50 rocket engine
• Stage 2 - S50 rocket engine
• Stage 3 - S-44 rocket engine

A minisatelite in 100kg and 200kg to be orbited by the above rockets.

Generic small satellite configuration. Same mesh, one configured as 100kg height, the other 200kg by changing fuel amount.

Included situations:
VLS-1 minisatellite 200kg – Launch a 200kg minisatelite using the VLS rocket.
VLM-1 minisatellite 100kg - Launch a 100kg microsatelite to orbit.

The provide guidance will (I hope) place the satellite into orbit, but they are rough. Any help is appreciated.
I tried to make performance parameters as realistic as possible.
After the fourth stage separates, it should start spinning to stabilize the payload. I was unable to simulate this.
The late ignition of the fourth stage engine is as indicated.
I can provide the "official" values for the VLS launch profile is somebody is interested. For the VLM it's pretty much guesswork.

Future updates will feature the VS40 rocket and the SARA experiment (already meshed, being discussed / developed with others in the Portuguese language thread).

The VLS-Alfa is also modeled so it will be featured in a future release.

So download the beta (http://www.4shared.com/rar/Tqn61iZZ/Brazilian_Space_Program.html
), give it a try and provide some constructive feedback :thumbup:

Hopefully you can do the Cyclone-4 to be flown from Alcantara too..... it's a quite interesting launcher with the ability to launch automatically from the hangar to the launch site. I might be good enough to make modifications into the older Cyclone-2/3 too.

The Cyclone-4 has it's own dedicated pad and facilities. I have some reference photos and diagrams for it, but performance details are still unclear.

For now, the only foreseeable update will be the VS40 and the SARA suborbital and orbital missions.
The VS40 is being used both from Alcantara and Esrange and caries interesting flight to simulate (like the SHEFEX for example).

What about the VLS and VLM? Do they work at all? Are there any missing files?

Hi 4throck,

I tried all the scenarios and none of them is working for me.
The 'MiniSat in orbit' is pretty obvious since you forgot to include the config file :p

For the other two scenarios I'm not sure. The scenario loads fine but there's no launcher present. I've noticed that you're using the old multistage, not the multistage2. Changing this still doesn't solves the problem though. There was a typo too btw: multistage\multistage should be multistage/multistage. I don't have the time to look further into this but since this is the beta I thought it would be good to let you know ;)

:cheers:

Thanks ! I do forget the most basic things :thumbup:
Don't think that I'm lazy, it has to do with me being slightly dislexic and working on add-ons late in the evening (real life comes first, orbiter comes latter :) )
The strangest thing is that on my Orbiter 2010 install it runs OK.

I'll add the missing files and correct paths as soon as I can.

So after a couple of launches, my feedback!

First of all, great work! 2 nice new launchers for the community.

And now I will do some nitpicking :p

Both VLM and VLS are not perfectly aligned on the pad which is not a disaster, but just nitpicking of me.

The guidance the of the VLM jettisons the fairings around the 75 km, which isn't a good idea ;)

The boosters of the VLS are falling into the core stage at burnout and jettison.

Here are the logs for the scenarios you've provided:

Thanks again! Comments noted!

Alignment on the pad is as good as the scenario editor allows. Perhaps if I change the coordinates manually the results would be better.

The VLM guidance is off, i know that. The funny thing is that on my Orbiter install the fairing jettison happens at a higher altitude... strange.
Also, I get a clean separation of stages and boosters on the VLS.
I'm testing this on a clean Orbiter install. Perhaps it has something to do with atmospheric parameters or some other config in Orbiter itself?

hmm, tried it on 3 installs; my main, a cleaner one which will be my new main and an clean one and I have the same results..

Attached is a playback scenario of when it happens.

I tested the VLM again and it jetisonned the fairing at 65km... I've adjust the guidance to a slower pitchdown while on the first stage. I don't have any reliable performance figures for the VLM that will use the new Brazilian solid S50 engine. It's mentioned that the engine will provide ~400 kN of thrust and a specific impulse of ~277 s.

Anyway, this will get you closer to orbit and (I hope) a fairing jetisson at more than 100km:

-10=PlaySound(Sound\VS-40\contagem.wav)
-1=engine(0,100,1)
0=roll(5,90,90,89,1)
5=roll(20,89,90,88,1)
25=pitch(88,84,20)
45=pitch(84,35,100)
145=pitch(35,0,100)
245=pitch(0,-5,200)
260=fairing()
445=pitch(-5,-5,300)

Thanks again. :thumbup:

With this guidance, the fairings are jettisoned just under 100km, which is not a disaster ;)

The orbit is still way wrong though:

This orbit is great for some beautiful earth shot's, until you reach your PeA

Maybe a little coast phase after the second stage separates could fix this. I will take a look later at it if you haven't already tried it

Interesting the diference in the fairing jetisson altitude.... perhaps its pc performance related ? Anyway yes, the orbit is off and your results are the same as mine. I think its fixable by pitching a little less while on the second stage. Ill try it and post the results.
