Just clear some things up: MEX only recorded the carrier signal, not the actual telemetry. That was left up to TGO. MRO is the first chance for actual telemetry post-landing.

So, Schiaparelli is still happily bouncing around Mars?

We're hoping to get confirmation from #FlightDynamics in around 10-20 minutes the @ESA_TGO has entered the proper orbit #ExoMars

"No good signs" on Schiaparelli. Radio carrier signal cut off early.

Earth recieved signal stopped half-way during the atmospheric portion of the descent. Same with the available data from the Mars Express....

Mars Express signal showed same break in @ESA_EDM carrier signal at same time as Pune. Not good, but need to see @ESA_TGO data to diagnose.

Experts will work through the night to assess the @ESA_EDM situation - next news will be tomorrow morning at 10:00 CEST #ExoMars

I'm actually just catching up to this mission and was wondering about the science mission of Schiaparelli - if it is in the vicinity of Opportunity, what is interesting in that particular locale that cannot be examined by Opportunity? Or is the lander a technology test bed?

ESA Live Broadcast of the Press Conference has started!

http://livestream.com/ESA/marsarrival

Franco BONACINA is the speaker now. He is the ESA head of communication.

---------- Post added at 04:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------

Jan Worner, ESA Director General confirmed that TGO is in Martian orbit now.

---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ----------

The EDM data was received by mother ship.

---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ----------

Andrea Accomazzo head of solar and planetary mission director of ESA now speaking.

---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:05 PM ----------

Another challenge ahead for TGO is the orbit period reduction maneuver.

---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------

EDM data may go wrong. EDM also deployed the parachute. Parachute phase no problem.

---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:08 PM ----------

It takes more time to analyze the descent data.

David Parker, ESA Director of Human Spaceflight and robotic missions now speaking.

---------- Post added at 04:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:09 PM ----------

Q&A session.

---------- Post added at 04:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 PM ----------

2020 mission not in jeopardy?

---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:14 PM ----------

The team cannot still confirm if EDM has crash-landed. No data received is the reason.

---------- Post added at 04:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:15 PM ----------

Curiosity is too far from EDM to confirm if it has landed.

---------- Post added at 04:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------
