I just registered for my first marathon!! It's a 10K running over the big bridge connecting Galveston Island to the mainland. Here is the website with more info:

http://www.toughest10kgalveston.org/

Not sure what to expect place wise. Just getting my feet wet, so to speak, as I work towards my ultimate goal in March for a half-marathon (13 miles).

I completed my final long run today getting ready for the marathon next weekend. Today was the first time I ran over ANY hills, this time over the Kemah bridge, twice, which is about 80 feet off the ground. The marathon goes over a 177 foot bridge, but it's not quite as steep as the bridge I trained on today, so I should be good. I didn't quite run 10K today because I want to cycle tomorrow as well, but I finished 6 miles in 58 min again (just shy of 10K), which is another first for me with the bridge and all. Clearly I need to do more work on my speed with sprints and tempo runs. As a result, I'm hoping to just finish the 10K next weekend in less than 1 hour and 5 min.

Hey, Tex. Good work!! As for the above quote ... it's the journey that matters, not the destination!

I didn't catch an age for you, what class are you running in? Masters?

And be gentle with yourself.

Cheers

That 10k run would be 16 laps around the local reserve area for me Tex and I'd have trouble running up a mole hill.

Good luck with that race, hope you keep a good pace. Tempo in mind of course.

Thanks for that, you are totally right!

I'm 30, so I'm listed in the 30-35 class I believe it is.

Cheers mate! I'm looking forward to it. Just finishing would be one thing off the bucket list, but I hope to improve a lot more anyway.

Oh, man. Just got back from a four-hour, 589-house route at work delivering flyers. Estimated distance: about 20 miles. I did it on rollerblades in about 4 and a half hours...

I went cycling today tracking about 37.34 miles.

I also took the camera and had a friend riding with me, so I was able to get quite a few shots. We started closer to the country roads and spent the whole ride out there visiting two towns, "Liverpool" and "Danbury".

Race day is here! Man... I remember when I used to stay up until 4am, now I'm waking up at 4.

Today's goal: Finish the race and hopefully not last!

10K finished in 58min. Better than I estimated, but way off from where I'd like to be. All in all it was really fun and a great experience. Run route and stats here:

Well I finally got to some gentle rolling hills, compared to everything around my home which is flat and straight. Drove almost 2 hours from my home to cycle 63 miles around Lake Conroe and Sam Houston National Forest. My friend loaned me a video camera, so I was able to capture footage of the ride and I put together a compilation of the video with some music.

Check it out here, HD-ish quality available:

1 mile sprint on the bike touching 30 mph. Still working out video quality, stupid Apple .mov files are such a pain to work with on the PC:

I though I'd make an update on my running/cycling. I probably won't do much cycling until next spring unless we have some unusually warm days here in Chicago. However, I just got a really nice new pair of Brooks running shoes. I finally got back up to running two miles yesterday. I'm gonna eventually try to work my way up to 10 miles.
