Default Orbiter often crashes at high time acceleration

The very best for 2018 to you all!

For some time, I am having a problem with time acceleration in Orbiter. At the maximum setting of 100000, chances are that Orbiter will crash to the desktop. I somewhat learned to live with this problem by relying on quicksaves. But on my flights to the outer planets, the problem becomes quite annoying to say the least. And while troubleshooting, I noticed it sometimes crashes at a rate of 10000 as well.

So I tried to isolate the problem. First by disabling modules. Then by unchecking Visual Effects and other parameters like MFD refresh rate. During coasting, I switched off all HUD's and MFD's. No succes. Orbiter keeps crashing when warping time.

Then I created a new Orbiter 2016 installation. This time with the recent R2-1 D3D9 Client and updated XR5Vanguard-1.12 vessel (so I installed OrbiterSound40 and DeltaGliderIV-3_2010_20140109 for the UMmu 3.0 as well). But the problem also exists in this installation.

The event viewer of Windows does not give a clue. The orbiter.txt log which is created upon launching Orbiter does not seem to be updated with any information when Orbiter crashes.

Any suggestions for solving this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to switch the vessel you are using with something simple, e.g. Carina, and see if it still CTDs?

From the addons you mention I would guess that its an addon using UMmu.
UMmu has not been updated for Orbiter 2016.

As the error only happens after some time, I would guess a memory leak or a stray pointer. To be sure I suggest to uninstall any addons and have some longer flights with time compression, with native Orbiter vessels and the built-in visual client.

If Orbiter would crash also in this basic configuration, it could be an external influence like a virus checker (but it is usually not.)

Next have a look if you are using the right visual client for the Orbiter version. There are updated visual clients for Orbiter beta versions, which may be incompatible with the standard Orbiter 2016 installation.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I will try the stock deltaglider on a long flight to see whether that makes a difference.

Got it. I made a new Orbiter2016 installation with the DX9 R2-1 client, because DX7 isn't working properly on my machine. And I installed IMFD57 otherwise I would get lost in the Solar System. No crashes this time at maximum time acceleration.

Then I knew what the problem could be with my normal installation. On my flight to Ganymede with the XR5 delivering six cargo containers at the default ISP(2), I littered the Solar System with 27 empty fuel containers along the way. I deleted them from the scenario with the scenario editor and that solved the problem. So I guess I have to remember to delete deployed containers.
