Arrow HCLV Hyperion
by OrbitHangar 07-23-2013, 01:49 PM

Author: loru

HCLV Hyperion is a versatile rocket system designed to carry a variety of manned and unmanned payloads into orbit. It’s an expendable heavy class launcher capable of delivering up to ~120 metric tons to 250km circular LEO.

Hyperion has internal launch autopilot accessible by MFD that can put LV into various orbits and can be controlled manually or using dedicated MFD.

There are 3 primary versions of the rocket:

–HCLV-S: Sidemount version for carying spaceplanes into orbit.
–HCLV-2: Inline version with 2 LRBs able to carry 80 tons into LEO
–HCLV-4: Inline version with 4 LRBs able to carry 120 tons into LEO

In addition the high performance EDS upperstage is included to perform various missions beyond low earth orbit.

The custom fairing system allows users to easily define new fairing types, while custom payload adapter support expands versatility of the rocket to acomodate future payloads.

Adjustable height over ground makes it easy to launch from any location/launch pad and Integrated Payload Manager makes payloads easy to handle and deploy.

Please read manual before installing and using

Installation requirements:
In order for the HCLV Hyperion to function correctly the following add-ons are required:

Dansteph's OrbiterSound 4.0

Kulch's payload manager SDK
Loru's Carl Sagan Space Centre
(Recommended) Jarmonik's D3D9 Client - D3D9 Client

Authors:

Greg 'Loru' Lorens

Design, meshes and textures.

Adam 'Woo482' Maudsley
Programming.

Update 1: scenario added
Update 2: corrected sidemount texture
Update 3: inline client CTD bugfix

I'm sorry if I missed something, but it seems there are no scenarios included?

EDIT: everything good now

There weren't. Urwumpe and DaveS pointed it out so I included sample HCLV + Carina in the package.

Just redownload it.

This is a very well constructed addon. I love the way you see the heat effects on the main booster nozzels, they cooled very rapidly when I killed the trottle, applying it again to see the heat build up again. That's really good. I found the vessel had alot of power, so figure it can carry very heavy payloads into orbit. I did put it's little satalite into orbit, somewhat eliptical.

Good teamwork there guy's

Up to 80 tons in 2 booster version and up to 120 tons in 4 booster version.

With upperstage capable of putting 45 tons into moon intercept course. Or if you prefer lighter payloads upperstage provides ~6.5 km/s of dV with 10 ton payload.

It would be great if I had more time to play with this.

Awesome launcher, Loru, and Woo!, and I can already tell it'll be something to spark the imagination.

Thank Woo482. Without him it would be just petty velcro or multistage contraption.

I'm getting tired of this attitude of people looking down on velcro/multistage.

I'm not looking down on those systems - I just consider them prototyping tools not means to release add-ons.

That is looking down upon. So that means that, if I release a velcro rocket, you'll think it's automatically bad?

No. Then I could admire meshes and textures (from what I've seen so far are pretty good), and hope for you teaming up with someone to create dll-ed version or regret if it stays as velcro/multistage.

But I think that kind of discussion should be moved elsewhere.
