Default DGIV Crashes above lunar and martian surface

Hope this is in the proper area. If not, feel free to move it.

I've noticed an interesting and unfortunate repeating occurrence with the DGIV. When landing on the lunar and martian surfaces, I always crash into what seems to be an invisible planetary surface that is usually ~1-2 km above the surface shown. This specifically happens at Brighton Beach and Olympus. When taking off from Olympus, it won't let me retract my gear while airborne if I'm below about 1km. Instead, it tells me that I'm still "on the ground". The altitude at which I can retract the gear on the way up is the exact same altitude at which my ship blows up on the way down.

Any ideas? A quick forum search didn't yield any results.

I hope the DGIV makes it into the O16 skies. In the meantime the Altea XR fleet has been updated for Orbiter2016(x64), not quite the same but equally excellant mods.
