I have one on one of my creative worlds somewhere, I didn't clock it, but it was ~1 1/2 - 2 seconds run, and completely hidden, no levers, pressure plates, or buttons, just place a redstone torch in the right spot and poof, the door opens
Yes it's mainly for the awe factor, but as a last ditch trap I have it ~10 blocks from the inner gate... Rig a repeater and start blowing goblins to pieces before they can reach the inner fort, and the defenders

Notes to next overseer:
Get the railgun system working, below it is the magazine, power supply and control room (well, last isn't yet built)
The third lever in the lever room controls the outer bridge (use it like an airlock)
just make sure it's connected when you start
Train...
Sorry the last bit took so long, school exploded on me and I didn't have time
A minetaour arrived and beat up a few trolls for us... then got shot be the goblins then The goblins got fed up and left... again...
I should have the save up by the end of the week
yes, but it has also been my experience that a table flying at high speed doesn't care about plate armor, it just rips the goblins body off

That's how I run my main, four alerts:
Green Alert:
Civilians have no movement restrictions, soldiers guarding gate.
Yellow Alert:
Civilians inside, all troops report to stations, archers man walls
Red Alert:
Civilians in the deepest bunkers cadet squads guarding...
They were pretty much inside the gates when they were spotted, I had no choice but to fight... luckily I wasn't killed, but one of my marksdwarves is critically injured...
I had the militia fight a skirmish with an infringing pair of anacondas, herd of wild boar, and herd of capybera... all three groups are almost entirely dead, more meat and bone!

Gah!! I messed up the danger...
So have two door handles...
I've had bad experiences with water... after watching your squad of grandmaster axedwarves jump off of a 30 block waterfall into an endless cavern... all because they wanted the x<troll fur sock>x
The last time my adventurer slew a mountian titan(a titan of pure fire) He shot it and it exploded instantly, this one is steam so it should do the same thing.
I've never accessed a cavern but I have a few Ideas how...
Kinda hard to trade when the merchants are scared of the invaders (although...
To solve the wood problem, the caverns have subterranean trees that can be cut down like regular trees... and tons of new crops, I'll make finding it a priority
Thanks for the DWR design, I was WAY over complicating it

Oh, look at all the !FUN! Can't wait... Course it can't be worse then 20 Crossbowgoblins and 10 macegobolins riding blind cave bears charging behind 12 cave dragons... all climbing all over the wall with a "military" that consists of 20 people who got axes shoved into their hands
