Google starts censoring autocomplete and instant

After Google moved its Chinese activities to Hong Kong and stopped censoring for the Chinese government, the Chinese government managed to out-compete Google with the Chinese search engine Baidu. I believe Baidu is now the most popular search engine in China. I never really understood how Baidu...

Question Amsterdam, really as bad as its reputation?

Ah, a perfect opportunity to confuse people: Amsterdam is probably the only capital in the world that does not host the government. The largest government that is located in Amsterdam is the municipal government of Amsterdam. The government of the Netherlands is located in a city called 'The...

    Humor Random Comments Thread

I'm so used to finding information on Wikipedia that I'm surprised when something is not there yet. The appropriate response is of course to add a new page.

    Humor World Cup 2010

Don't kill the messenger. Besides, my guess is that yellow is its favorite color. It will probably predict a spain victory in the final.

    Humor World Cup 2010

True, but I think they can. If Spain wins from Germany, as the octopus has predicted, and we lose from Spain, that would be less painful than losing from Germany.

    Humor World Cup 2010

The Netherlands beat Uruguay with 3-2. Netherlands-Germany in the final is a bit of a trauma here, so the outcome is going to be dramatic in any way.

Gaming Orbiter photo's used on ESA website

 They're here in Delft! I could easily take my bicycle and give them a visit, if I wanted to! It doesn't make too much difference though: I think any message we have can as easily be sent with a friendly e-mail. So, first of all, what message do we agree on? I guess we want them to give...

    Humor World Cup 2010

That proves my incompetence in predicting soccer. I don't really care though. What will be the team that kicks the Netherlands out? Maybe Germany in the final?

    Humor World Cup 2010

I think they'll lose against Brazil. I didn't have a look at the statistics, but I think quarter finals is quite a normal level for the Netherlands.

    Compiz-Fusion? More like Compiz-Brain_Fuse-Blowout-Party

Compiz IS compatible with GNOME: I'm typing this from a system that simultaneously uses Compiz and GNOME. I'm afraid I can't help you with your problems though. I'm not an expert in configuring Compiz, and my system was configured for me by Ubuntu.

    day uno.

Did you let the hard drive go through the body scanner or through the carry-on luggage scanner? I always follow the instructions and let my laptop go through the luggage scanner. Has never been a problem. And yes, the Dutch LOVE their bicycles. It's a convenient way to combine transport and...

    Poll Gimp or Photoshop?

I happily run the Gimp on a computer that is more than 5 years old. But that is in Linux, where the Gimp has a natural advantage, because there it can share the GTK libraries with the GNOME desktop environment.

    Poll Gimp or Photoshop?

The GIMP does have a DDS plugin. I'll see if I can find you a link. Edit: here it is: http://registry.gimp.org/node/70 Wasn't hard to find at all.

Programming Question Defining type "int" in C++ file

    I followed the first complaint of the compiler, and had a look at line 15 of the file V2i.h. const VECTOR3 OFS = {0, 0, 0}; // universal mesh offset const TIME_VERT = 4; // vertical takeoff, sec const RANGE_LOSS_IDEAL = 6100; // %%% f(range)? calibrate on EQU! //...

    Orbiter 2010 license

With Orbiter? I doubt a couple of bytes will hurt anyone. Maybe a ballistic bombing, and using Orbiter for trajectory simulations. I can't think of any other evil usage of Orbiter.

    Orbiter 2010 license

In most countries, making and/or using a space combat sim addon would not be illegal. But imagine that the Orbiter license actually allowed using Orbiter for illegal activities (real-life illegal, not just Orbiter-universe crime). Imagine what sort of evil things we would be allowed to do with...

OS WARS MEGA THREAD (Now debating proprietary vs. open-source!)

Which will probably good for the future popularity of Ubuntu, if you look at the continuous popularity of windows. I'm still using Ubuntu. While I am an experienced Linux geek, I also like it when a system gives me productivity, and when it 'just works' after installation, so that I don't waste...

    Orbiter 2010 license

Oh, I didn't have a look at that yet. Is the 'set HUD reference object' function also in the new API? That would be good news, and I'd be more than happy to release a new version that uses the new official API. Should I keep a copy of the old version for users of 2006P1, or should I just ask...
