SDK Question Ctd when compiled in Debug but not in Release

It sounds like you have a bug that overwrites memory in the heap. What I would do is enable the Visual Studio heap debugging for debug builds and run your code in the Visual Studio debugger to find memory overwrite bugs. Check out this post for details. :)

Flight Question XR-2 Engine Specific Impulse or Exhaust Velocity?

The challenge with trying to calculate an "effective specific impulse" that covers both the main and SCRAM engines is that it very much depends on the pilot's skill using the SCRAM engines during ascent: the efficiency of the SCRAM engines is highly dependent on how the pilot flies the ship...

Flight Question XR-2 Engine Specific Impulse or Exhaust Velocity?

Yes, the Specific Impulse values listed in the comments in the XR2 configuration file are correct. As for the SCRAM engines, the logic is very similar to the default DG-S SCRAM engine logic; i.e., the thrust and ISP values vary constantly based on atmospheric density and the vessel's velocity.

General Question Which sound client do you use for Orbiter 2016?

Hmm, I'm not sure. The sound engine that XRSound uses, irrKlang Pro, supports changing a sound's playback speed, but I haven't tested if that also changes the sound's pitch. I already have a TODO item filed for XRSound version 2.1 to add a method to adjust playback speed for a sound, but I...

General Question Which sound client do you use for Orbiter 2016?

To be honest, I have zero interest in writing that since I already just copy all my desired radio callouts into the active ATC folder (and there is no limit to the number of callout files XRSound can play), and I do the same with music files. i.e., personally, I never need or want to change...

General Question Which sound client do you use for Orbiter 2016?

That would not work, because OrbiterSound 5 would still play default sounds for XRSound-enabled vessels, still resulting in double sounds for default vessels sounds like thrusters, altitude callouts, etc. But even if that was not the case, adding a setting like that would be unfair to other...

General Question Which sound client do you use for Orbiter 2016?

Sorry, that's not ever going to happen. The entire reason I wrote and released XRSound in the first place, and then sent the entire source code to Martin, Xyon, and Woo482, is because OrbiterSound did not work with Orbiter 2016 for years, and nobody had any way to port it. With XRSound, I can...

    Gaming New Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Quoting from The Verge: You can now play Microsoft’s Flight Simulator in VR Also: Christmas came a few days early this year! EDIT: Had time to try out the new VR mode this evening on my HP Reverb G2 VR headset and Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS. Notes and first impressions: If you have HDR...

General Question Modify the number of XR-2 crewmembers?

XR ship crew members are managed by UMMu, but UMMu is not yet compatible with Orbiter 2016, and so that functionality was temporarily removed from the XR vessels to prevent crashes-to-desktop. However, once UMMu 4, which is compatible with Orbiter 2016, is available, UMMu support will be...

News Changes to the SpaceX BFR rocket.

That was an excellent video analyzing the entire flight! So from that analysis, there were no engine problems during ascent, and the two engines being shut down near apogee was intentional. So the only major problem was the low fuel pressure after the flip back to vertical and reigniting two of...

News Changes to the SpaceX BFR rocket.

I'm wondering if fuel ran out right before impact. It looked like only two engines ignited for descent (I assume one had failed, like it appeared during ascent?), and engine #2 flamed out a bit before impact, followed by the last engine flaming out just a few seconds later, ~1 second before...

Flight Question XR5 Round-trip cargo delivery mission to Mars without refueling on difficult/realistic settings

Good point about the center-of-gravity shifting -- it is probably that which makes the biggest difference here. I will add a TODO for the next XR patch releases -- it should be easy enough to drain the highest-numbered tanks first. Can't promise when the next patch release will arrive, though. :)

Flight Question XR5 Round-trip cargo delivery mission to Mars without refueling on difficult/realistic settings

BTW the XR Attitude Hold autopilot uses elevator trim and/or RCS jets to maintain attitude, so that is what is helping to rotate the ship during takeoff. As for XR cargo bay slots, it is by design that cargo slot numbers start with the lowest numbers on the bottom of the bay (1 2, 3, etc.)...

Flight Question XR5 Round-trip cargo delivery mission to Mars without refueling on difficult/realistic settings

You may be able to do it if you reenter in multiple orbits, rather than all at once. You only need to set your periapsis on the initial Earth entry low enough to be captured by Earth's gravity (maybe 60 km or even higher?). Then you can set your apoapsis a bit lower on the next orbit to bleed...

Problem Change crew names in XR2

@JohnSpeed, no you cannot change XR crew members in 2016 until UMMu support is available for Orbiter 2016.

Problem XR-2 Default Crew Complement Issue

This is expected behavior until UMMu for Orbiter 2016 is released and I release new XR versions that use it; crew complement is handled by UMMu, and UMMu support had to be removed from the Orbiter 2016-compatible XR versions due to UMMu's incompatibility with Orbiter 2016.
