    Software Orbiter_ng Config Warning?

Something I noticed the other day, not sure how long it's been there....I have Orbiter_ng witht the D3D9 client installed. I've been using it for months with no issues. But when I initially open Orbiter, at the bottom of the loading page I see a message: "Warning: .config folder not present in...

Flight Question XR-2 Engine Specific Impulse or Exhaust Velocity?

Thanks for the info, that should get me started. I'm still new to this, and while I'm at a point where I'm able to get from A to B, I'd like to do it as efficiently as possible. To date I know I've been lugging around too much fuel. Let's get that corrected! Thanks again.

Flight Question XR-2 Engine Specific Impulse or Exhaust Velocity?

Let me ask this: when I look for information on the dV required to get into earth orbit, the value seems to be 9.3-10 km/s., which gives an orbital speed of around 7 km/s allowing for loss due to atmospheric and gravity influence. Is there a ballpark way to calculate the fuel required to get...

Flight Question XR-2 Engine Specific Impulse or Exhaust Velocity?

I'd like to perform some calculations using the rocket equation, and I'm trying to find either the Specific Impulse or the Exhaust Velocity for the XR-2 engine. The XR-2 .cfg file shows a Specific Impulse value of 25962. Is that correct? It seems to be very high, as most engines are in the...

BurnTimeCalcMFD BurnTimeCalc MFD Estimate Total dV?

Thank you for your offer, but you're right, doing this myself would be the correct way to go. FWIW, I've been using Orbiter 2016 and starting with one of the stock XR-2 scenarios (Ready for Takeoff to ISS). From that point I've deleted or added LOX or fuel as necessary for trips to the moon or...

BurnTimeCalcMFD BurnTimeCalc MFD Estimate Total dV?

Thanks. Maybe I'm missing something? I'm using dV numbers I've seen on numerous websites, they all show something like 9.3-10 km/s to get into orbit. My orbital speed at 200k is about 7.700 km/s. Most sites I've read allow about 1.5-2.0 km/s due to atmospheric drag. The dV due to the earth's...

BurnTimeCalcMFD BurnTimeCalc MFD Estimate Total dV?

Thanks. I've seen how the dV available goes up as the mass goes down, so the number I see is only the dV available at the moment I look at it., and I'm not clear how that helps me. I guess my real question is this: How much fuel do I need to get from A to B? Let's take an earth-moon flight. It...

BurnTimeCalcMFD BurnTimeCalc MFD Estimate Total dV?

Using BurnTimeCalc MFD, what exactly am I looking at with the Estimate Total dV number? While sitting on the ground with a full load of fuel, why is this number so low? (XR-2, full fuel load, the Estimate Total dV shows less than 7.000 km/s) Thanks.

General Question Modify the number of XR-2 crewmembers?

Thanks for the info, I look forward to getting UMMu. And thanks for all the work you do on Orbiter.

General Question Modify the number of XR-2 crewmembers?

Hello. I'm trying to change the number of crewmembers on the XR-2. All the stock scenarios seem to include 14. I opened up the config file, and changed the default number to 7, but when I use scenario editor to create a "new" XR-2, I end up with 14. What am I missing? Thanks.

General Question Video becomes choppy when using MAP mfd.

Using Orbiter 2016, whenever I have the MAP mfd displayed, my video becomes "choppy". For instance, if I'm orbiting the Earth, the usually smooth video will start to move in "ticks", advancing in short choppy steps instead of a smooth flow. I only see this when using the MAP mfd. I'm running...

    Question Unable to load/activate D3D9Client

I think I'm making progress, but at a snail's pace. I've got the directx_Jun210_redist.exe file, but when I open it I'm asked "Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files." I'm very open to suggestions, thanks. I'm (obviously) not a wizard on the computer, and a lot of...

    General Question Runway Lights?

I'm looking at the Canaveral.cfg file. At the very bottom the are four "fields", two RUNWAY and two RUNWAYLIGHTS (I don't see anything that looks like rw_light). Is there something there I should tweak? Please understand, I may be in over my head, if there was a Orbiter Code for Dummies, I'd...

    General Question Runway Lights?

I see the Lpad01_n.dds, and Lpad02_n.dds. Also _n files for Taxiway1 and 2. So I have Runway1.dds, Runway2.dds, and rwlight.dds. Am I missing a _n file that enables the nighttime runway lights? Is there something I can modify, or a file I can try to install (short of uploading the entire...

NASSP Apollo 8 TLI Scenario Questions

Also....I tried to do your solution for the SII SEP lt issue, When I open the Project Apollo MFD and select IU, the SRC button and enter AS-503, but the the CHA button doesn't do anything, no place to enter 48.

    General Question Runway Lights?

Thanks for the reply. Could you be more specific about the location of the file I want to check? I did find a file in the Textures, "rwlight.dds", is that the one I should add the -n to?

    Question Unable to load/activate D3D9Client

OK, but when I run that setup, it tells me "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already". Am I looking at the right download, "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer"? Any other thoughts where I might go from here? Thanks.
