    Direct transfers

The technical term you mean is accelerated transfers in case of the "To the Moon in 24 hours", which is based on this NASA paper *. For an accelerated transfer, you use a much higher apogee than needed, resulting in a much higher velocity at the encounter and a off-tangent departure from the...

    News COVID-19 pandemic

We now have a seven day incidence of 66.7 cases per 100,000 people in our rural district (233 persons/km²). So much to the plans of the daughter to celebrate her birthday in some weeks with her friends from school. Damn Covidiots!

SSU Development thread (4.0 to 5.0)

I am already looking at this again, but I think I'll do a bit more work on the project first to improve quality before release. Also I am still in debt for a JSON support for specifying the animation constants. Anyway, before going on to GNC, I think I'll also invest a bit of effort into...

SSU Development thread (4.0 to 5.0)

Yeah, we have many such differences, but remember, we had little information about the GNC major function so far. I think we can improve the situation a lot with this handbook, especially the many ET fast separation scenarios sound like a lot of "fun" to fly in a simulation. I have to do a...

Generally, the handbook contains a lot of flight software implementation specific information, thats pretty great for improving our own guidance algorithm.

Thats one important kind of information.

Well, its open-loop guidance at this point, we should just have a new pitch table there.

Sure, but I am not sure how well those fit to our data, since we have different wind conditions in any scenario. Its easier to check the first 300m against data than the next 30 km.

SSU Development thread (4.0 to 5.0)

Hmmm... I think I see some ways there. Maybe start with a special debug/test MFD for doing this in a coarse and fast way and later move the functionality into a separate application for more precise analysis.

Not sure how to include this data in a useful way into Orbiter, is it something that should be checked real-time? Can we create such plots with a generic MFD as well?

Rocket propulsion what alternatives could there ever be?

You mean engineering there. Or economics, which influences engineering a lot. Sure a point. But even that does not require a big company to achieve big things. From my work, I know quite many companies, which are world market leaders - but actually operate from a tiny factory with a small...
