Possible modified/custom terrain corruption

This is something that we in the SSU project have noticed, with our custom/modified SLC-6 area terrain that there's a difference between the release Orbiter 2016 and the betas. Everything is fine in the release version, but in the beta versions the terrain is altered despite everything being exactly the same, except for the release/beta differences.

Here's two screenshots that show the bug:
Release: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7s213au13...lease.jpg?dl=0
Beta: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jdbamh8ehk..._beta.jpg?dl=0

Note the differences, especially at the eastern half of the pad in the beta screenshot.

Just to be clear what I am looking at:

Is the high-res section of the surface a 2010-style base texture or is it an actual high-res quadtree tile? If it's the latter, what are the resolution levels of the low-res background tiles, and the high-res base tile? Do the high-res surface tiles come with their own elevation tiles, or are elevations inherited from the low-res ancestors?

And finally, does this difference also show up with the inline graphics client?

The base is entirely converted over to 2016 and isn't using any legacy textures. I'm not sure on the details though. But yes, it shows up in the inline client as well so this isn't a thing related D3D9Client.

The thing is, in the first image you posted (for the release version) it looks on the right-hand edge as if the lowres surface is partly overlapping the highres texture. If all tiles shown are part of the quadtree that shouldn't be possible. The tiles don't overlap.

If possible, could you post those images with wireframe meshes instead of the surfaces (don't know if this can be done in the D3D9 client, but it does work in the inline client: Extra | Debugging options | Rendering options | Render objects as wire frames). Maybe that gives some clue as to what's going on.

I was not the one who did the terrain work as the tool refused to work for me. But here's a wireframe view from slightly above showing things: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hw74jxggas...FRAME.jpg?dl=0

This definitely looks odd. It looks as if there is some sort of surface mesh on top of the terrain mesh. I don't know how this was generated and why it would behave differently for release and beta. But it seems decidedly nonstandard. Maybe have to get whoever did the base to provide some more clues?

Yes, due to the need of having a resolution that doesn't exist, we're using a custom mesh for the general launch complex (like how it is done for Launch Complex 39 at KSC). Would a SSU package be of help? I got one ready with the latest SSU SVN trunk revision (3023). It would be installed just like any other add-on.

Can you first check if the "WRAPTOSURFACE" flag is set in the config file for the mesh object that defines the surface? If so what happens if you remove that flag?

Checked and it was set. I removed it and no more issues: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8xh7i66ux...moved.jpg?dl=0
