Can you reduce the time to wait between queries?

Hi there,

sometimes when i try to search something, i have to wait 30 seconds even if i'm loged in. For me, this is a bit much or is it really necessary? Even if the user is registred and loged in? (For anonym users and guests it's absolutly ok and neccesary!)

I think a better solution could be to limitate the queries over a day or so (for example, 100 queries per day should be enough), because sometimes, i would search several times in succession because i modify my expressions to get better results.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Topper,

Unfortunately searching is a very intensive process on the server, so there must be some sort of time limit between each search to prevent too many queries being processed at one time. We also have to consider that others will be searching as well and we have over 100 members online frequently. We'll discuss the possibility of decreasing the time to something less than 30 seconds and get back to you here.

You can also do your searches via google

Take a random thread-title and try searching for that via google, and this forum pops up (with a link to the thread). Or enter the forum's web-address before your search term to refine your search.

We have reduced the delay to 15 s. We'll monitor the server and see if the impact is too much or not.

Thank you all!
JEL, thats a great idea why i haven't such ideas!?
But it's also great to reduce it to 15s!
If the impacts are not to much, than for me, you can close this topic!

In my experience, the main issue with the time between searches is when your search turns up 0 results. Naturally, you want to try a new search term right away. Otherwise, if I get at least two or three results, it generally takes me longer than 30 seconds to look at them.

Of course but if a search gives 0 results and the system allows you to do another search immediately, a guy can do a lot of searches in a row slowing the server. So there has to be a limit also when you get no results, even if it's annoying.

Good news is at least so far I haven't seen any negative side effects from the change. I'll go ahead and consider this closed.
