  • WOW, That Ark is HUGE! Me thinks it would dwarf B5. Have you seen any artwrok depicting "O'Neil" type space colonies, the design was the basis for B5.

BTW... I'd like you to look at smething for me but I'm not sure how to send you a compessed file, I could post alink to my "Drop Box" acount, a very hand and free service for file sharing. Might be about 22.5MB, and you'll need Orbiter 2010... ... ... he he he he ; )
PS: So regarding "exploding" her in Sketch-up.... It would be nice to get her apart that way, saving me a lot of work (Just time wise, I love learngin to do this stuff) but wouldn't that mean the bits need re-positioning again in Animator? I also know that exporting as an obj file results in one single mesh being created, so I guess if you did the same as me but in scketch-up first then eported each part... hmmm again a lot of work. I think I can manage as is for now, but it wouldn't hurt experimenting if you're up for it.
    Con't:

This allows for easier labelling and editing in the Orbiter Mesh-file format. It seems to me that all the meshes I've looked at in notepad follow the same or similar pattern, "one mesh = one material colour / texture". I'm not sure this is a rule or a convention but I'll follow it since it seems to work.
Glad you like it. I've gotten most of the various components apart. I'm keeping a base-line copy of the original mesh, then selectively deleting everything but the desired element(s) then re-saving as a new mesh/file. But first I positioned everything and scaled etc in Anima8or so that when I cut and paste each component back into one file they re-appear in their exactly correct positions BUT as separate meshes. I plan to keep "chunking" this way. Then detailing and texturing the compenents as desired then exporting the individually into Orbiter meshes then re-intigrating them in note pad.
I am psyched! I just got a great idea, would it help if I pulled this apart in Sketchup, kind of explode the thing? Then you could do what is needed in Anim8er....
I'll see what detail I can remove and then repost the .obl file. There are other places I can pare down as well - the dish on the front, and the other antini all over can be simplified etc.
    Thanks Roadware.

It's a project I've been tinkering on for a couple months. I found a model of the Nostromo from the original Alien on Google Scketch-up's archive. Soooo, I thought it might be cool to find a way to convert it into a working Orbiter add-on. Sadly it's turned into a monster of a job as I've very new to the modelling software etc. I've gotten it into Orbiter as a static model that flies, but there are bugs with the skin in places etc...

Some day I hope to either figure out how to solve the issues of find a fellow modeller to help finish her for release. Know anyone?
