    Ah, that'll do it. It can be a bit misleading, it's counting the null terminator at the end of each string. So effectively you type 18 useful characters, but it needs that last null character to indicate the string is over, so the "array" needs to be 19 characters long.

    You can remap certain commands by editing the keymap.cfg file, in the main Orbiter directory. Keep in mind certain addons have their own key mapping for special functions, so depending on what keys you choose to remap to, I think there could be conflicts with those addons.

    Sounds like a normals issue, have you tried using Shipedit under Orbitersdk/utils, to generate the normals? Failing that, I've had luck with re-importing the mesh into Blender and using the "set normals from faces" tool on the misbehaving bits.
